Today I had my “Get Real” business experience, which is a core part of Butler’s College of Business‘s curriculum. Like I explained in my previous post, it’s an all day event (9-4 to be exact) consisting of high ropes (38 feet high in the air, actually) and low ropes courses meant to challenge the participant physically, emotionally, and mentally…and let me be the first to tell you, it does. I never thought I had a few of heights, but when it comes to being almost 40 feet above ground and just attached to a wire- I definitely do.
The most challenging/exhilarating/best all around activity was definitely the “Breathtaker Swing,” which does exactly as the name says it would. You’re attached to a cable wire that hangs in the center of the course, and you’re sitting on the edge of a platform (once again 40 feet above ground) and yeah…you can predict what happens next. You’re supposed to slide off of the edge of the platform, which you drop down incredibly fast and you swing back and forth until you’ve stopped and they unhook your “claws,” which is what you’re attached to, and then you’re back on the ground. Needless to say, it definitely gave me and everyone else that participated an adrenaline rush.
When I toured Butler, I knew that the College of Business hosted such an event, but I didn’t realize how life changing it was. It sounds incredibly cheesy, but between the two events I feel a new trust/bond with everyone that was in my group for the day, and I also learned a lot by myself. I definitely recommend checking out one of the the open dates for the high ropes course, which as as follows:
|Friday, Oct. 5||9:00pm – 2:30am (night course)|
|Friday, Oct. 19||1:00pm – 5:30pm|
|Saturday, Nov. 3||10:00am – 2:30pm|
These dates/times are free of charge, and open to everyone! I definitely recommend it for the non-faint-of-heart types. Happy October, all!
