About Me:

Hey, I'm Austin, and I'm currently a freshman here at Butler! I'm an ENTJ, a travel junkie, and an entrepreneur. I'm an Alpha Kappa Psi brother & True Blue Mentor, as well as being a part of Entrepreneurship & Innovation club, the volunteer center, and a student production crew member at the brand new Schrott Center. I also am a part of the student-run business, the Butler Bed Buddy. I'm always looking for something to get involved with on campus as well. Go Dawgs!

Missing in Action – Spring?

This past week has been, well, interesting – to say the least. Classes are back in full swing after a relaxing spring break, and with the NCAA March Madness coming to an end for the Butler men’s basketball team, well, it’s pretty much back to the real world for now. With basketball gone and school going full-force after spring break, I’ve pretty much left my productivity somewhere that is unknown, and I haven’t been able to find it. All I want to do lately is sleep and relax, but I guess that’s just because it was the first week back from spring break.

Snow..........it just now finally stopped!

Speaking of things “MIA,” has anyone seen the season of spring around anywhere? Butler received 6 inches of snow last night alone, and more fell pretty much all day until about 3PM today. Let alone classes weren’t canceled, which I was fairly bitter about when I first woke up this morning. The campus really looks its best in the snow, I will admit. It’s so picturesque, and I honestly feel like everything looks fake! The snow makes for me wanting to be even less productive as is, and I just want to really get into bed and watch a movie or something, instead of the two papers I have to write as well as the calculus homework I haven’t started yet…Boo. I’m actually going to get started on that and then maybe afterwards I’ll be able to enjoy the snow, and perhaps join a snowball fight that is know to happen on campus, whether it be on the Butler Mall or at one of the residence halls! Hopefully spring will come back, and the weather will warm up again (like it was on Saturday)!

Big East Bound

As you may know, rumor has been going around since January about Butler joining the “Catholic 7″ to form a new Big East conference. Today the rumor was confirmed – Butler is leaving the Atlantic 10 after one season in order to become a part of a stronger conference that is both academically & athletically focused at the same time, particularly focusing on men’s basketball. This move for Butler truly means so much to the university, and I believe wholeheartedly that this move will bring great things to Butler! From more national recognition through playing with the other elite schools in the new Big East, only great things are to come from joining it.

I can’t wait to see the new rivalries that come about next season due to the conference move. I’m predicting that the biggest rivalries that Butler will face in the conference will be between Georgetown, Xavier, Marquette, Villanova (considering President Danko came from Villanova), and perhaps Depaul (since the university has a strong alumni base in Chicago). There are just so many good teams within the new Big East that there’s no possible way for there to be just one rivalry. I’m going to try my hardest to be at every game, and I can’t wait to see what lies ahead for both Butler and this new powerhouse of an athletic conference! Here’s a video of President Danko announcing the confirmation of joining the new Big East.

March Madness has Begun!

March Madness has begun, and it’s everywhere you look on campus this week. Personally, you won’t see me a single day this week without some sort of Butler gear on that I purchased from the bookstore or without my Butler Bed Buddy. From sweatshirts to tshirts, snapback, and everything in between – March is here, and Butler pride is at an all-time high.

This is a big week for the university. From the “special announcement” that is planned this week to the game versus Bucknell on Thursday, it’d be an understatement for me to say that I’m excited to see what’s in store for the rest of the post-season tournament. I also got tickets to the game on Thursday at Rupp Arena in Lexington, so I’ll be seeing all of the action live as the Dawgs take on the Bisons! In order to get pumped up for the game, I like to rewatch this video of the top 27 Best Buzzer Beaters of all times, where yours truly wins both #1 & #2. Go Dawgs!

Dawgs vs. Dayton

If you don’t really watch college basketball, then you don’t really know how the Butler Bulldogs throw down. Yesterday was the kickoff for the Atlantic 10 tournament, and Butler was seeded number 5, meaning we didn’t receive a bye round. Butler then played number 12 seed Dayton, and it was an intense game. I usually wouldn’t be able to watch games on TV, but because I was home on spring break I was due to having NBCSN! The game was intense, like I said prior, and I was nervous due to the fact that the last time we played Dayton Rotnei Clarke got hurt. It turns out that this game Rotnei scored the most points, though.

If you can't get to a tv, get live updates through the ESPN Score Center application!

It was a really close game, but the great Butler Bulldogs pulled out the win to play again today against La Salle, which will be an interesting game as well. If you get the opportunity, check it out on NBCSN or watch the live stream on the Atlantic 10’s website!

Spring Break – Road Trip Edition

Happy SPRING BREAK! My spring break has gotten off to a terrific start! I’m spending most of my spring break at home, where the weather has been terrific, too, but I’m actually in Atlanta currently for a few days visiting my sisters who live here. I brought my friend Emily home for the week, and we drove from Indy to Knoxville on Saturday night. It was my first time driving a long distance without my parents, and I actually liked being on the open road.

While in Atlanta, my friend Emily and I have spent most of our time shopping and getting ready for warm weather. Most of our purchases have come from American Eagle, Buckle, and H&M, which is also where a majority of my closet has become since being at Butler. We’ve also spend a lot of time in a variety of the cultural districts in Atlanta, such as Atlantic Station, the Olympic Park, and even hung out at Ikea just for fun. I’ll blog about the rest of my trip as my week progresses. Happy Spring Break, everyone!

The view from Atlantic Station. I love Atlanta!

#ThrowbackThursday

I may or may not regret this post after now, but here we go: Happy Throwback Thursday everyone! Throwback Thursday is defined by Urban Dictionary as “when you put a picture from a ‘while’ ago on your social media sites.” This is can usually be found on Instagram & Twitter by “hash-tagging.” or attaching a # sign before words, such as my title.

Freshman in high school vs. freshman in college. Crazy, right?

Anyways, I may or may not do this regularly as a blog from here on out where I post older pictures of something and write about the memories they bring back, too. This picture, for example, was taken in 2008 when I was a freshman in high school. It’s weirdfor me to think back to that period of time in my life, but I’m sure it is for everyone as well. As a freshman in high school, I would have never imagined myself in the shoes that I’m in now, and I would have never imagined myself to be at Butler, either! Back then I was just concerned with getting through each day, and now I’m so goal-oriented, yet I still feel like I can remember my entire freshman year like it was yesterday.  Looking back, I haven’t kept a consistent friend base that I can reminisce with due to all of my friends and I going our separate ways, but it was definitely for the best for all of us. I cannot wait to see what my future holds, but I’m going to take advantage of the time I have now!

This post was also brought upon by looking at an old picture of Butler Blue III that was posted on Facebook earlier as a puppy! Here’s the photo of baby Blue that has me feeling oh so nostalgic currently. Enjoy!

Butler Blue III! Isn't he the cutest?

Struggle Bussing – Spring Break Edition

As I sit in a meeting for my business group, I find myself really struggling to focus on anything – including writing this blog. I’ve never been more ready for a Friday – not just a break – in my ENTIRE life. I’ve had more meetings in the past week, and I can’t even think straight even more. Let alone I stayed up until 6AM last night doing homework (and praying for a delayed start that never came).

The only reason I'm alive right now: caramel frappuccinos.

One thing that has gotten me through this week alone has been caramel frappuccinos from Starbucks. I don’t even like caramel, but they are SO good. Coffee has definitely been a necessity in order to even live with all the midterms, papers, and variety of group projects assigned! Thankfully I have a lot to look forward to on Friday, though, because not only is the the start of spring break, but it’s also my birthday! I do have a business calculus exam to prepare for, but it won’t stop me from being excited about the entire day because I get to go to the Old Spaghetti Factory Friday night in order to celebrate, and I’m ecstatic about that! We don’t have an Old Spaghetti Factory back home so the only chance I ever get to eat there is if I’m either in Indianapolis or if I’m in Nashville for some reason, but needless to say I’m pumped. Only four classes separate me from relaxation, friends, and family!

Cue the Snowpocalypse

It is now 11:00 PM, and the snow has yet to stop falling. Today was a typical day. I woke up earlier than usual for a presentation for my RBE class for the Butler Bed Buddy, and then gave a presentation. After class I walked to my room and took a nap for about an hour before going to Atherton in order to present the Butler Bed Buddy to passer-byers who were headed to lunch.  After which, I went back to my room and laid back down because I wasn’t feeling well. It was a regular day – a Tuesday.

Beginning of all of the snow!

Well, to my surprise, when I woke up around 5 from my second nap (which is slightly sad) there was snow EVERYWHERE, and it hasn’t stopped! The campus is covered in white, and it’s really nice to see because we don’t get that much snow back home! It’s somewhat of a double-edged sword, though – I want more than anything to be out of class tomorrow (and the snow is giving me hope for it), but I also have a peer-editing review session in one of my classes and another review for my business calculus exam on Friday! Either way I’m going to be glad that it happened, but hopefully it happens soon and I find out whether or not I need to set my alarm. I love snow days!

Family Birthdays

Since this is my first year away from home at college, of course it is normal for my family to get together more than they usually would if I were home. Let me explain this – my mom, my mom’s fiance, and my younger sister all live in Tennessee, and both of my older sisters live in a suburb of Atlanta, Georgia. It’s been hard being away at school because due to all of us having incredibly busy lives and living in three different states, we haven’t all been together as once, well, since I believe Christmas of 2011. It gets hard for me personally at times, but it is just going to make the next time we all get together even more worth it!

My family at Abuelo's!

My family at Abuelo's! I miss them!

My family got together yesterday in Chattanooga (which is the halfway point for my mom and my sisters to meet) for my older sister Jena’s birthday. She turned 25, and everyone except for myself was able to attend her birthday dinner at Abuelo’s . While my mom did attempt to FaceTime me while the family was at dinner, I was actually asleep and didn’t answer! It was sad, but I am hoping that we can all at least be together at some point next week for dinner perhaps. Anything, really, I just miss being with all of them at once, but I will at least get to see all of them next week (whether it is all together or separate) next week when I go home for spring break, and then go to stay with my sisters for a few days! Needless to say, I’m beyond excited to see all of them and my dad as well next week!
