The Beach

Spring arrives, and I did everything I could to live it up. As I already mentioned, when I visited Rome, I spent a day with my friends at Ostia, a beach city an hour outside of Rome.

Bellissima!! In typical American fashion, we threw around a frisbee on the beach, which is always my favorite because it doesn’t take a second thought to dive for a sick catch. Sand doesn’t hurt (it just gets everywhere).

Then we settled into some more clichéd activities, such as collecting shells, soaking up the sun, and taking photos of the local graffiti. Okay, so maybe they weren’t all cliché. But I think I can speak for all of Italy when I say that I am breathing a sigh of relief at the departure of winter and the coming of cool breezes, blossoming flowers, and inevitably short-wearing weather.

Spring Approaches

This year, everything I write has been put through Google translator twice, one in Italian, again and again in English. I hope that this post contains a modicum* of sense. Why? Because I can.

Two months is approaching! This marks the halfway point of the semester. I am happier than I could imagine, first of all because my Italian is reaching unknown heights of skill (I can stumble into a conversation of moderate intensity), and also because I am constantly awed and overwhelmed by the magnitude of this experience.

I took a ride* today, and stopped halfway because of what I saw. The Italian hillside paved* me. And ‘finally becomes hot again (after weeks of cold and snow) and the campaign*, everything seems to be swelling and reopening the sun*. Hmm, I wonder if I could draw a correlation between the earth and the sun in my experience with Italy, but I think I’m running out spongiform*-

Warm Weather, Where Art Thou?

If you don’t believe what will tell you, just step outside your door for two seconds, and you’ll experience the fantastically beautiful weather that is very un-October (which is fine by me, since I still want summer). If you’re on Butler’s campus, there are many options for people looking to relish these final days of warmth.

Benches: where work comes to be distracted.

  • Go on a run! (You’re great HRC, but sometimes outside is just nicer)
  • Throw a disc
  • Do homework outside on a bench
  • Lay outside, work optional
  • Visit Holcomb Gardens (The painful reminders that it’s autumn are there, but that doesn’t mean it’s not beautiful)
  • Keep your window open
  • Wear shorts
  • Wear t-shirts (Both advisable anyways)
  • Sit in class hoping against hope that your teacher will take you outside (which sometimes WILL happen. Thanks Dr. Spyra!)
