Last weekend, for our last weekend seminar on the History of Baseball in the District, we were able to attend a Washington Nationals Game. Although I have a sworn allegiance to the Yankees, I was still able to enjoy the game. They played the St Louis Cardinals so regardless I wouldn’t have cared if any team lost.
The only previous MLB game I’ve attended was the first home game the Yankees won in their new stadium during the regular season. It was really cool seeing a new stadium and going to a professional game during one of the last weekends of the semester.
The funnest part of the game was seeing how different things connected to some of the historical facts we learned in class. We got to understand why the Nationals came to DC from Canada.

Yesterday I went shopping at Target to start buying things I need for this upcoming school year. I was really shocked I didn’t need that many things. It seemed like I bought a million things going into my sophomore year so it’s nice that I didn’t have to spend as much money this year. I mostly just needed new notebooks and pencils.
The biggest, and most expensive item, I needed was a new mini fridge since the one I had last year mysterious stopped working. I decided not to get the Yankees fridge I have been coveting for years, but hopefully this lasts longer than a year!
My box O' supplies!
There are so many things that students should pack when coming to Butler. You can view a full packing list here via Facebook. Of course there are the essentials: backpack, bed linen, school supplies, toiletries, etc. But the part I think is the most important are the little touches of home you bring.
My favorite aspects of my dorm room were all the pictures and posters I brought. My favorite was my New York Yankees poster above my desk. And all the pictures of my family and friends really made me feel at home. But of course I couldn’t leave behind my XBOX 360. I would have been completely lost if I couldn’t play my games and watch movies on it!
So my best advice as to what else you should bring is bring whatever will make you feel at home in your dorm to make sure you feel comfortable.
Here’s a video of one of the rooms in Schwitzer Hall.
Last night, I stayed up extremely late watching the Colts and Yankees game. And just my luck, they both lost! And this morning, I was faced with the disappointing news that Peyton Manning will not be playing this season. Hopefully the Colts can pull something together. I really wanted them to do well this year since the Superbowl is in Indianapolis.
The Yankees already secured a spot in the postseason so now I’m just waiting for that to start!
For my Sportswriting class, I have to go to the volleyball game tonight and write a story on it. It will be my first ever volleyball game so I’m excited to see all the dynamics. My professor said Butler is expected to win the game so at least I can look forward to that!
Here’s a video of the girl’s volleyball coach talking about their success!
Of course the baseball season has started and the Yankees have been on a three game winning streak and I really hope they can keep it alive against the White Sox tonight! I’m from the Chicago area so I’d rather the Yankees win so my friends won’t tease me about losing!
I also randomly like the British soccer team Newcastle United, but they’ve been struggling recently so we’ll just awkwardly change subjects!
Baseball has also come in handy recently to keep me away from all this Royal Wedding news. At first I was really excited to see it. But now it is everywhere and I just need a break! I still haven’t decided if I’ll watch it this week. Maybe I’d be more excited if I were invited (It’s not too late William and Kate!).

I love making fun of the Mets and this video does it for me
When I first started this blog I remember being so excited about the Yankees going to the Playoffs and it’s weird seeing that the new baseball season has already started! There’s also only a month left of school (Who’s counting, anyway?!?) which is even weirder! This year has definitely flown past me and I have no idea where it went!
Today I only had one class so I’ve definitely been having a lazy day today. What makes it better is that my first two classes got canceled for tomorrow so I get to sleep in! Besides it being my birthday on Monday, classes being canceled, being able to wear shorts AND hardly having any homework, I’m not sure how this week could get any better!
This evening there is a pep rally for the basketball team so I’ll be sure to go over to Hinkle Fieldhouse to go support our basketball team! They really put in a lot of hard work and hopefully they can do it again next season!!
Creeping on some people (as usual!) going to Robertson Hall on Sunday!
Although I’m not a huge sports junkie, I definitely have my favorite teams. In baseball of course I like the Yankees and in college football I love USC. But when it comes down to the NFL, I can’t deny my affection for the NY Jets!
I like the Colts as well but tonight’s game vs the Jets was a close one! Both teams played well but eventually the Jets squeaked by with a 17-16 win! I also like the Bears since I live near Chicago so I’m pretty interested in seeing how they’ll play in the postseason.
