So I’ve been bored lately and one of my friends suggested I watch the HBO show Girls. So I thought what the heck and starting watching and I really like it! It’s a bit risqué but hey, what isn’t these days?
The show stars writer and actress Lena Dunham, who I’m a big fan of, and it shows her and her friends living life in New York City. Lena plays a character named Hannah who is extremely self-obsessed which becomes a huge funny point for the show. Her other friends, Shoshanna, Marnie, and Jessa also have their quirks.
Despite the title, the show isn’t very “girly” at all and I even saw online that the show has a larger male audience than female audience so don’t let the title fool you! If you decide to watch, make sure no kids are around!

This winter break I’ve invested in Netflix, as I’ve previously discussed. It has saved me from extreme boredom and has been entertaining me as I continue to fill out law school applications during break. Unlike all my friends, I don’t move into my apartment in D.C. until next week. The abundance of movies and tv shows at my fingertips is astounding!
The newest show I’ve gotten into is Orange Is The New Black. It’s a show about a woman, Piper, who gets thrown in prison after a crime she committed like 15 years ago. She’s not what a viewer would consider the typical jail type which adds to the humor. It’s a dark comedy so while being funny it also has more serious elements at times. The show also goes into the backstories of various inmates as well. It gets risqué at times so it might not be for everyone.
I have gotten so addicted to it that I’ve gotten through the whole season in two days. The second season is supposed to be premiering on Netflix sometime this year so I’m excited for it to get started back up again! Ellen Degeneres did a funny skit involving a scene on the show fairly recently that I enjoyed:
Now that I have time to relax on break instead of being busy during the semester, I’ve decided to invest in a good book and Netflix. The first show I decided to watch once I got Netflix was House of Cards. It’s about a Congressman who works the political system to do things for his own benefit and to get his way. I started watching it since I’m going to be living in D.C. next semester so it got me excited to start living there. It’s not an edge of your seat drama but it’s more of a “How will he get out if this one?”
While I wait on the second season to come out in February, I’ve decided to start watching the show Sherlock. It’s a modern adaptation of Sherlock Holmes and comes at an appropriate time since I’ve begun reading a collection of Sherlock Holmes short stories. It sounds nerdy, I know, but it makes me feel pretentious.
