Almost There

Today is the last day for students to leave the residence halls, marking the official end of the semester. I’m going to be a Summer RA this summer so fortunately for me, I don’t have to move out just yet! But it’s also sad since it means all my friends and residents will soon be gone. I have definitely been a little sad checking out all my residents from their rooms and seeing campus slowly but surely get emptier and emptier.

So last night my friend Alan had a last gathering in his room last night. It was our friend Arielle’s birthday so we made sure to sing to her! None of us are graduating just yet so we still have all of next year to hang and get chummy! It’s so weird how fast the end of the year came.

Music Monday: Last Day

So today is the last day of classes and it is bitter-sweet. Although I’m happy to be almost done with the semester, it also means I’m that much closer to having to go out in the real world. Thankfully I have a couple more years before I have to do that just yet.

The song I chose today is “School’s Out” by Alice Cooper. I thought it was fitting since school is almost out. I couldn’t find a music video for the song like my normal Music Mondays but this live performance will do. It’s kind of scary but that’s what I like about it!

Happy Easter!

Happy Easter everyone!

I hope everyone had a great Easter! I was able to go home this weekend to see my family and go to church! It was so nice to go home and relax and see my family. We got to go out and eat and even watch a movie together.

When I got back to campus I got to campus, my friend Karleen and Brandon all went to her house to finish the Easter festivities. Her mom cooked a glorious meal and needless to say, I’ve eaten cheesecake galore. Her family also participated in an Easter egg toss competition. If I were playing I would have won but Karleen’s older sister Kelly ended up winning. We ended the day visiting her friend Allie’s house and now I’m back on campus after a fun day doing homework. :(

Twas fun while it lasted!

Couldn’t Stay Away

Today was sort of an off day since students weren’t moving in today so I had a lot of free time to get laundry done and run errands. Campus was actually pretty quiet today, which I’m sure will change really soon once everyone moves in tomorrow! But as of right now, things are pretty calm.

Since I was a little bored, I decided to visit my old stomping grounds at the Collegian. It was so great seeing everyone and catching up. I guess I couldn’t even stay away for a week! I had to quit this semester since I am starting as an RA but it was definitely weird being in the office and not having to do anything for a change. Hopefully I’ll be able to visit again soon during the semester!

Almost Here

The semester is almost about to start and I’ve yet to get things organized in my room. I have everything unpacked but now it’s just a matter of actually putting them in the right spots. Things were actually more organized when I first got unpacked but now as I’ve been doing things all week, I’ve just been throwing things everywhere.

My desk is my biggest problem… I just picked up my books from the bookstore so they’re taking up most of my desk but I’ve also been using it to hold my clothes, papers, supplies, and everything else really. Since I’ll have more free time tomorrow, hopefully I’ll be able to getting around to do that.

It's not as clean as I would like it but it's getting there!

Photo Shoot

RA training has continued and it has continued to be fun. Last night we went to the Old Spaghetti Factory for dinner downtown and it was delicious! I had chicken marsala and pasta which was amazing. I highly recommend it if anyone plans to go. I would’ve had ice cream as well but I started to get a tummy ache so I couldn’t finish. But I definitely plan to go back since I love Italian food.

Today the RAs in my building walked across campus and took pictures for a bulletin board and had a mini photo shoot. We each had to take a solo picture and a group picture. I ended up taking my solo picture in Holcomb Gardens, which was great because it was a beautiful day! The weather was perfect and I wish I could’ve stayed forever. I can’t wait until I have more free time so I can go back and study!

Butler Return

I have officially moved all of my things back to Butler. I got back Wednesday but it took me two days to get my room how I want it. No, I’m not just that slow, I’ve had RA training this week! Yesterday we did icebreakers and got to know each other which was fun, especially seeing all of the other RAs in the other buildings.

Today we find out all of the people in our units so I’m really looking forward to that. I have to make doortags to put people’s names on their doors and I have to decorate the FIVE bulletin boards in my hallway. I have to do this along with other RA training activities today so my day will definitely be busy!

Packing Bonanza

Since I’m moving back into Butler this week, I have to start doing some last minute packing today. Even though I’m trying to bring back only the things I use and need, it seems that somehow each year my load gets larger! And you would think I would learn from the previous two years of moving to realize that getting ready the day before is always stressful. Oh well.

I also have to run to Target to get some last minute items for my room like posters and containers to carry my stuff in. I also have to get a haircut as soon as I get to Butler to add to the pressure because I’m long overdue for one. I’m just mostly looking forward to being on an empty campus for a week.

Some of the many things I have to start packing up........ I definitely have a fun night ahead of me!

Academics

I think the most important thing about colleges like Butler that gets lost in the fray of information is all the academic opportunities. Besides all the majors in all six colleges, there are also resources that can help you in your classes.

The Writer’s Studio is open to all students to help with any writing assignment that a student might have. Whether you need help with coming up with ideas or want someone to look over work you have done, there are students in the writer’s studio that can help. But if someone has a speaking assignment such as a PowerPoint presentation or a speech, there is also the Speakers Lab that students can go to for help with how to get started or for ideas on how to improve a completed presentation.

I love that both of these are available since writing or giving presentations might not be strongpoints for many students.

Here’s a video for more information on academic resources for students:

Back To School Shopping

Yesterday I went shopping at Target to start buying things I need for this upcoming school year. I was really shocked I didn’t need that many things. It seemed like I bought a million things going into my sophomore year so it’s nice that I didn’t have to spend as much money this year. I mostly just needed new notebooks and pencils.

The biggest, and most expensive item, I needed was a new mini fridge since the one I had last year mysterious stopped working. I decided not to get the Yankees fridge I have been coveting for years, but hopefully this lasts longer than a year!
