Break has been wonderful so far! I can literally say I have done nothing but eat, sleep, and watch television every day so far which is exactly how I like it! I’ve also been able to catch up on all the episodes of Fear Factor I’ve missed this season! I’ve also developed a new strange love for UFC. I’ve been watching it nonstop and I even bought the 100 Best UFC fights of all time on DVD as an early Christmas present to myself!
I also found out that I’m going to be assistant sports editor for the Collegian next semester, which probably explains my new UFC obsession! I’m really excited since sports is a new world to me so it’ll be interesting to see how I do at my new position. I’ve been watching ESPN daily to try to catch myself up on the latest sports news!
The best thing about break has been the fact that it hasn’t snowed and has been raining instead! I have mixed emotions toward snow. I only enjoy it when it has the potential to cancel classes and school but other than that, I’d prefer not to be bothered! I hate slipping on ice and having to clean off my car! Maybe I’ll get lucky and not have a terrible winter like last year!
^This is the only thing that would make me slightly enjoy the snow and cold weather!
For my Sportswriting class I had to go to three Butler sports games and write stories about them. It was definitely really fun! The first game we went to was the men’s basketball game against Northern State. It was definitely a riveting game but ultimately the team lost right at the buzzer!
After this game, there was a joke in our class that we were cursed because at each game our class covered, Butler lost. But, on Saturday, we covered the football game and basketball game and Butler won both! Butler won both games pretty easily so I was excited. It was definitely fun to write about a game that we have won for a change as well!
I also got to go home on Friday to do some laundry and I got the iPhone 4S! I have been having a lot of fun playing around with it and talking to the creepy/interesting virtual assistant, Siri.
Here is the team’s introduction for this year!
So as I mentioned yesterday, I have to interview 24 people for my Collegian story this week. And I can happily say I have done 20 of them! Looking back I think the hardest part was the intimidation of having to do 24 but it was not as hard as it seemed at first. I also got to meet some very interesting Butler faculty members in the process as well, so it was a win-win situation!
For my sportswriting class we get to do a story on the women’s soccer game on Wednesday against Cleveland State. I’m really excited because I have yet to go to a women’s soccer game at Butler. After the game we will get the chance to interview the coach and players, which is also exciting.
Last week there was a flash mob to get Jimmy Fallon to come to Butler! I missed it because I had a club meeting to attend. But, here is a video with the dance moves from the flash mob!
Last night, I stayed up extremely late watching the Colts and Yankees game. And just my luck, they both lost! And this morning, I was faced with the disappointing news that Peyton Manning will not be playing this season. Hopefully the Colts can pull something together. I really wanted them to do well this year since the Superbowl is in Indianapolis.
The Yankees already secured a spot in the postseason so now I’m just waiting for that to start!
For my Sportswriting class, I have to go to the volleyball game tonight and write a story on it. It will be my first ever volleyball game so I’m excited to see all the dynamics. My professor said Butler is expected to win the game so at least I can look forward to that!
Here’s a video of the girl’s volleyball coach talking about their success!
Since taking my Sportswriting course, I’ve become a sports fanatic! I have been constantly checking the ESPN website to get the latest updates and scores. I’ve been especially checking the US Open matches! Hopefully Serena Williams can pull out a win today!
I’ve also been keeping up with football and baseball. Of course I’ve always loved the Yankees but I’ve recently become a New York Jets fan! They play the Cowboys tonight so I know I’ll be up watching that tonight!
On a side note, today is the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. I was in fourth grade when it happened. I did not understand the complexity of the issue at the time but now I see what an impact it has made on our country. Now, we can be grateful that we live in a safer and more united America. The Collegian is doing a staff reflection on its website today about what happened.
Here’s a video that serves as a tribute to the day
I’m so glad to finally be back at Butler! I’ve been super busy with all my courses and extracurriculars! I decided to take a break from my homework to talk about what I’ve been up to!
For starters, I just joined the Butler Collegian, Butler’s student newspaper. It comes out every Wednesday and we put in a lot of work into making it perfect. I write for the news section! I’m also a member of College Democrats again and yesterday we started planning some awesome events for this upcoming year! Stay tuned to my blog for more about that!
I’m also pretty excited for all of my courses. I’m really excited about my Sportswriting class. Though I have a couple of favorite sports teams, I’m not much of a sports junkie so I’ve been consistently checking ESPN everyday just to get up to speed on the latest sports news.

Since today is the first home game of the football season, I thought I’d share a Butler football video I found online!
