Bowling for Days

So tonight I went bowling with my friend Karleen and, needless to say, I completely dominated. I normally throw gutters galore but tonight I successfully played one whole game without throwing a single one! My score ended up being like 83 but, since I was playing against such an amateur, I won pretty easily.

We went to a place called Latitude 39 and it was really nice! It had neon lights, weird techno music, and great smelling food! So basically everything I’ve ever needed. The food there was awkwardly expensive so we got McDonald’s afterwards. I usually don’t like going off campus much on school nights but I did all my homework so I thought, “Why not!?”

I can’t wait to go again! I love playing against Karleen because she makes me feel better about how I play! Just kidding! …But seriously……

Great Season

Last night the men’s basketball team suffered a very close loss but definitely fought a long, hard fight and I couldn’t be any prouder! It’s tough to end the season so early but I can’t wait until next season when I’m sure, no matter what, they won’t disappoint.

Starting the day yesterday I planned on not watching the game since I had tons of homework and I usually can’t handle high stress games like the NCAA tournament. But, I couldn’t help but watch after hearing all the cheers and screams coming from people in my hallway, I couldn’t help but watch in bits and pieces in between reading for Spanish.

Even though this season didn’t end the way we would have hoped, at least we have the opportunity to start fresh in a new conference next year to really show the other teams what we’re made of, which is extremely exciting.

Bowling Like A Champ

Yesterday I went with my residents to go bowling and let me tell you, I bowled like a champ. And by that I mean I got last place. But don’t worry, I got last place on purpose! I just didn’t want to shame them with my talent. So if anything, I was doing an act of charity. What a saint I am!

We went to the Woodland bowling alley, which was like 10 minutes away from campus ~~speeding~~ driving. We had so much fun eating, bowling, and taking tons of pictures. I got my first, and only strike, of the night while talking on the phone! So clearly my talent is heightened while I’m distracted.

After I got back to campus, I immediately went back to my room to finish up my homework, which I’m taking a break from now. I need to finish it all before my Super Bowl party tomorrow! Wish me luck!

Fantasy League

As I previously said in an earlier post, I really want to start my own fantasy football league after being inspired by watching the show The League. Well, I have peer pressured some of my fellow RAs into making one and we are having our draft tonight! The timing is awkward since the NFL season started today but that’s another story…

Our league is called “The Sco” since all but one of us live in Resco. I already have my quarterback, Cam Newton, picked out but the rest of my day will be spent researching what other players I should pick. Maybe I’ll watch whatever games are on today and make my decisions based on that. Hopefully I win!

Favorite Campus Spot

The other day I was thinking about what my favorite place on campus would be and I’d have to say it’s Holcomb Gardens. I actually like it for various reasons but the biggest reason is that it’s a place where you can study quietly outside. At certain times it doesn’t get much people traffic so it’s great to just lay out on the grass and get work done.

But I also love the fact that it’s right next to the Monon Trail so you can even use it to go running on a nice day. A lot of sports go on there as well so it’s really a multi-use kind of place. I’m thinking of bringing a bike to campus this year just so I can ride it on the trail in the gardens.

Last Newspaper

This morning I wrote my last article for the Collegian. It was sort of a bittersweet moment since I’m happy I don’t have to write anything else but I’m also sad it’s over. I had to cover the men’s golf team this week and their tournament at Ball State.

Last Wednesday we had our last meeting of the year and for our last ice breaker we had to say our favorite Collegian memory. I had so many it was hard to narrow down but I think my favorite was my birthday when everyone signed a card and made me a gift! I’m so sad I won’t be able to do newspaper next year since I’ll be so busy but I’ll definitely come back if my second semester clears up!

Bieber Fever

This morning I decided to go for a run on campus with my friend Emily. As I was getting ready, I looked on my phone to the pleasant surprise that there’s new music on iTunes! Not only did the new Madonna album come out today, but the new Justin Bieber song came out! Needless to say that I had loads of material to listen to while I ran! I also loved the album and song! Who’d have thunk it!?

It was my first time running in ages and I don’t think I’ve been to the HRC all year! I was so out of shape! But hopefully pretty soon I’ll be able to run for an hour without stopping. It was definitely weird waking up early and running on campus because we were the only ones out and I don’t I’ve ever seen campus so empty and quiet!

Listening to Madonna made me think of the Super Bowl again so here’s a video I took of the light-up sign downtown!

Celebrities Galore

Since the Super Bowl is in town there have been numerous celebrity sightings all around Indianapolis. Yesterday, many people were posting on Facebook how they saw Beyonce, Ryan Gosling, and random football players in the city. I’m getting jealous of everyone’s sightings and have decided to go celebrity hunting downtown tomorrow since I don’t have Friday classes! Maybe I’ll happen to stumble past Madonna practicing for her halftime performance!

After Jimmy Fallon’s show on campus on Sunday, he came back the next day to film scenes for a skit in one of the dorms! Fallon even tweeted a picture of some students in Schwitzer! OF COURSE I had class while he was here but it was fun to still know he was somewhere on campus.

Tonight I’m supposed to be going with my friend Jill to see Bob Costas‘ show about the Super Bowl. I’m really excited and hopefully some all-star celebrity football players make an appearance too!

Back Into Gear

So the semester is officially back into gear and the assignments are pouring in! I already have papers and projects assigned for next week! YIKES!

Last night I spent most of my time in the Collegian office working on the paper since the first issue of the semester comes out today. I wrote a game recap on the women’s basketball team. You can read it here. I had a lot of fun writing it and can’t wait to find out what I’ll be writing for next week. I really like the women’s team so hopefully I’ll get assigned their game against Green Bay tomorrow.

Since I was in the Collegian office all night, I missed the President’s State of the Union Address. I looked online to find everyone commenting that it looked like Joe Biden kept falling asleep so I’m really disappointed that I missed it. I’m sure I’ll hear all about it on the news today. But in the meantime, I’ll be finishing up my homework for today! After leaving newspaper last night I was too tired to finish all my assignments so now I’ve been scrambling to get it all done this morning! Ahhhh…. procrastination at its finest.

The Comeback

Since I’ve been assigned to cover the women’s basketball games for The Collegian I had to watch them online. The first game against UIC was really painful to watch and they lost pretty handily. But the second game against Loyola was just the opposite!

The Bulldogs started off slow, being down by as much as 17 points. At first I wanted to turn away as I thought it would be a repeat of the UIC game. But, after half-time, it was like there was a whole new team on the floor as the Bulldogs quickly came back. Both teams kept exchanging the lead but the Bulldogs came out on top winning the game 60-57!

I was happy the team won for two reasons. The first one is just because it’s Butler. The second reason is so now I won’t have to write a depressing sports story!
