So ResCo held a Halloween banner contest where each unit could decorate a banner and each unit has to compete against each other. My residents spent hours on it and the finished product was amazing! Everyone in the hallway pooled together supplies and resources such as paint, colored paper, brushes, and decorations. The theme of the banner had to have a mix of Butler, your unit, and Halloween themes.
The winner was supposed to be announced on Halloween but after a power outage that made the whole building literally have to spend the night in the dining hall, it wasn’t. We didn’t get to return to our building until 4 AM which was extremely inconvenient but at least classes in one of the academic buildings was canceled. The winner still hasn’t been announced but we’re waiting with crossed fingers that it was our unit. The winning unit wins a pizza party so we’ll see who reigns supreme.
Today was Mardi Gras and it was a lot of fun! Unfortunately I was not able to go to New Orleans but I was able to go to the Mardi Gras event held in Resco. Last year I couldn’t go because I was busy but this year I was able to attend! There was so much food! They had Yats, candy, and King Cake. I’ve never had King Cake before so that was exciting to try and it was delicious!
There were many activities too! There was mask decorating, caricatures, and psychic readings. I was able to decorate a mask but I was too scared to go to the psychic for the fear of her telling me that I was going to die in like five minutes. Luckily, I didn’t! I ended my Mardi Gras night with photos in the photo booth and needless to say I’m surprised I didn’t break the booth with all the photos I took! I can’t wait to attend again next year!
Waiting in line for food!!

Today marks the first day of fall break and instead of leaving last night, I left in this morning because I was on duty at Resco, which means I have to stay in the building in case a student gets locked out of their room. It was as quiet as a mouse and only saw two of my residents! Seemingly everyone left during the day for break!
Now that I am home, one of the first things I did was to get a haircut! Now that that’s over, I am currently snuggled up in bed watching Goldfinger since everyone I know stresses how good of a movie it is. Hopefully this break remains as relaxing as it has started off!
Abby and I on duty!
Last week my faculty in residence at Resco invited everyone in our wing over for s’mores! I’ve only had one s’more previously so I was definitely excited to go truly experience s’mores for myself. They had a campfire set up for everyone to make their own s’mores. After struggling for some time, I eventually got the hang of it.
My international students in my hallway never had s’mores before so I ended up having to teach them how to make them. Evidently I burn them too much instead of making them a golden brown, but I’m getting better! I made myself two of them and they were absolutely delicious and messy! I can’t wait to have more!
If you look closely, you can see me helping a little boy blow out his marshmellows! André saves the day, again!
As I’ve previously posted, I have become a new fan of the Dallas Cowboys and I decided to take a break from watching their preseason game to blog about my time back at Butler so far!
Although I’ve had a lot of things to do for Reslife as an RA, one of the fun things I’ve gotten to do is put together my bulletin boards in my unit. In my building, we have to put together 5 bulletin boards each and it has been one of the funnest times I’ve had.
I’m not really one of the most artistic of people so it has definitely been interesting deciding what to put on my boards without being too artistic but also looking creative and nice. I have the International unit so I already have a theme to go off of. I’ve done 3 of my 5 boards so far and they’re due by Friday so I’d say I’m in a pretty good position right now!
My first board!
So this year I’m going to be starting my first year of working with Residence Life as an RA and I’m really excited. I will be the RA of the International Unit which means that about half of my residents will be American and half will be from other countries. I’m really looking forward to seeing where everyone is from and learning about their countries.
I will be an RA in Resco which means that I’ll probably be living there all four years, which is great seeing as there are private bathrooms and air conditioning! I could live there forever! I move back in a month so I’m making sure to make the most of the rest of my summer! It has seemingly gone by so quickly.
My stomping ground for all four years!
I am regretting everything I have ever purchased in my life. I am currently packing to go home for summer and I just have too many things! I have even made two prior trips home to take things out of my room and hopefully this is the last one I’ll have to make.
Resco, the building I live in, only has one rolling cart to rent so you can move things to your car so I’m hoping I can make a mad dash to rent it before anyone else after my class tomorrow. If not, I guess I’ll have to make countless trips back and forth to my car…. At least it’ll give me some good exercise!
My final load! Don't let its small size fool you, I also have to take out everything in my closet!
Today I had my Civil War FYS class and I enjoyed it! I love history so it seems like it will be a good fit for me. We have to Gone With The Wind which is really long but we have Spring Break to read it so I’ll manage.
I also decided to get ahead on my Spanish homework so I’m caught up all the way till next week. I feel like I’m starting the new semester with a great/fresh start. I start my ballroom dancing physical well-being class on Friday so that should definitely be a new experience!
That’s all for today! Feel free to leave a comment!

Resco Dining Hall this morning at breakfast!
My math class for today was canceled so I only had to go to Chemistry today! So I got to take a REALLY long nap! Tonight I have to finish reading The Speckled People and study for a Spanish test.
I just attended an SGA (Student Government Association) meeting and it is a really good organization for freshmen to join. Each student organization at Butler has a representative in SGA and I represent ADrenaline, Butler’s advertising and marketing club. They won regionals and did well in nationals last year. SGA members vote on different agenda and are responsible for deciding on how money is allotted to various clubs on campus.
I am excited for the upcoming events at Butler! SGA sponsors many of the events on campus. Last year the featured artists at Butler were Kellie Pickler and Girl Talk. This year, Ben Folds, John Legend, and John Mellencamp are coming! Adam Lambert already came earlier in the year. For more info on upcoming events and tickets at Clowes Memorial Hall at Butler visit their webpage.
I added pictures of my dorm today so that future students can get a feel as to what the rooms would look like. Most freshmen will be in either Ross Hall (boys and girls dorm) or Schwitzer Hall (girls dorm). I am in Resco which houses mostly sophomores but occasionally some freshmen slip through (like me!).
THE YANKEES ARE GOING TO THE PLAYOFFS!!!!!!
That’s all for today! Go Bulldogs!
