The Valentine Shake

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Instead of boring you with a typical, mushy, love post about Valentine’s Day, I instead will discuss my new favorite Internet trend: The Harlem Shake. This trend has gone everywhere. It’s basically the new Gangnam Style.

Videos of this trend tend to first start with one person dancing wildly in a public setting with everyone else paying him or her no attention. But when the bass drops, then everyone joins in, usually accompanied by props and masks.

When I first saw it, I was confused as to what exactly was happening since I remember the Harlem Shake being a dance I used to do in third grade. But now that I know what it is, I’m obsessed! It’s my dream to participate in one now.

So I basically spent my Valentine’s Day watching Harlem Shake videos.

Here’s a video compilation of funny ones:

Gangnam Style

Last week I was made aware of a new video making its rounds on the Internet by blogger Katie. It’s a Korean KPop video called “Gangnam Style” that is, to say the least, very strange. There’s even a dance that goes with it that basically looks like “ride the pony” but evidently there are steps that I am too lazy to learn.

But now, this video/song is an inescapable force! Not only is it on every news station, it is also on my favorite talk shows. For example, Britney Spears and Ellen DeGeneres danced to it on her show. It is even currently number one on iTunes. And, to top it all off, they are now starting to play it on the radio! It’s the new “Call Me Maybe.”
