Being the Political Science major that I am, I have been keeping up with this year’s election for seemingly ages! It was especially important to me since it was the first Presidential election I could vote in. I previously voted in the 2010 election but this one meant more to me. But the election finally came to an end last night when President Barack Obama was reelected to a second term.
I was anticipating having to stay up until around 2 or 3 AM to hear the winner but all of the television networks projected an Obama win around 11:20 PM so my night ended earlier than expected. Some of my residents ordered pizza to celebrate the night so of course I joined them! I didn’t get to bed until 2 AM but it was worth it celebrating the historic night.
This summer was A LOT of fun and I got to do a lot of fun things!
The majority of my time was spent at my job where I worked in my local city hall. It was really fun and I got to work with a lot of my classmates from school so it was great catching up with everyone.
I was able to go to County Line Orchard’s BBQ and Blues fest with my friend Jill who goes to IU. It was definitely a different experience. There was great music, tractor rides, and great food. I especially loved their freshly made blueberry donuts and their Italian pizza. I want to go back EVERY year just to get those donuts!
Me chowing down on some pizza! (I wish I had known someone was taking a picture though!)
Of course I had to see a movie, and I saw “Midnight In Paris” starring Owen Wilson and Rachel McAdams. I don’t want to give away too much from the movie but I have to say it is probably one of my favorite movies. I loved the plot and thought the casting was perfect. And, it had the perfect happy ending! I would recommend it to anyone!
So everyone was invited to watch the Butler vs. Wisconsin game in the Reilly Room on campus. There were so many people! They held a raffle at the commercial breaks giving away free T-shirts and had free pizza! There was even a person from the news filming us. I left early because I usually go to bed at 10 but I lived a little and left at 10:30! I wish I hadn’t since the Bulldogs won! I really hope they win their game today against Florida!
When I got to my dorm after leaving early, there were people all around watching the game and cheering. Let’s just say, I didn’t even have to turn on my TV to know who won!! My FYS teacher canceled class the next day because she knew we’d all be up watching the game so it was really nice to sleep in!
Everyone watching the game on the big screen!

So REACH, Butler’s diversity organization, sponsored a free trip to Chicago to the first 25 students to sign up and luckily I was one of them! The trip was to see a play called “Mary” at the Goodman Theatre. We left at campus at 10 am and got back at 10 pm. It was definitely a full day!
When we got to Chicago, we had an hour and a half to explore on our own before the play started so a group of us all went to get lunch. I had Chinese food which was delicious to say the least!
After this, we all went to see the play which I also loved. It did a great job portraying real-life gender and racial issues facing Americans. It had its serious moments and it also had its funny moments. I would not mind seeing it again!
After the play, we ended the day by going to Giordano’s Pizzeria which was also paid for. I’m from the Chicago area so I’ve had it before but it tastes better with each bite! I even had four slices left over to bring home.
When we got back to campus, I went to my dorm room and decided to unwind by laying down and browsing the Internet. In doing this, I decided to make a Tumblr! I recently deleted my Facebook because I got bored with it so this is a really nice substitute with my time! Along with Twitter, I feel like I’ve now covered all the important social networking sites.
That’s all for today! Feel free to leave a comment and thanks for visiting my blog!
