Usually I’m always up on watching all the awards shows and doing a recap of them but this year I’ve been slacking off. And that also means I didn’t watch the Oscars either (sorry!). But I did see/hear about all of the highlights!
I’m not much of a movie person which is probably why I wasn’t at all interested in watching. I do sometimes enjoy Ellen Degeneres but even she wasn’t enough to get me to be interested. Movies are always too long and I have a short attention span. I was, however amused by Ellen’s celebrity selfie! It even broke the record for most retweets on Twitter!
I had no idea Jared Leto was in a movie, let alone was a good enough actor to win an Oscar! That was definitely the most surprising moment for me. I enjoy his music in his band 30 Seconds to Mars. Other than that I awkwardly didn’t know the rest of the winners….. Maybe for next year I’ll be more caught up on cinema!
So, in closing, this wasn’t much of a recap. My apologies.
Here’s a funny red carpet video though
On my first day back home for Spring Break, I decided to see a movie with my friend since elementary school, Hayley! She informed me that there was a new Disney movie called Oz The Great and Powerful so we went to see it! The theatre was extremely packed to see the movie so luckily we got there early to get great heckling seats since we both enjoy making snide comments about movies together. Yes, we’re those people….
The movie starred James Franco as Oz. It also starred Mila Kunis as one of the evil witches. It is before Dorothy arrives and tells the backstory as to how Oz got his rule over the Emerald City. The plot and storyline were very creative and the cinematography was spectacular. I really enjoyed the movie. Although I have a vendetta against movies longer than 1 hour and 30 minutes, I still enjoyed this
2 hour movie. Needless to say we got irritated looks for giggling and laughing the whole time but it was a great movie, nonetheless! I highly recommend seeing it.

Yesterday the Oscars were on so while trying to finish up on my homework, I caught glimpses of the show. Seth MacFarlane, the creator of Family Guy, was the host and from what I saw, he was slightly offensive, which is what I expected. Some of the winners included the film Argo for Best Picture and Jennifer Lawrence who won for Best Actress. She awkwardly tripped while going to accept her award but of course she handled it like a champ and very comically!
Two of my favorite moments involved Michelle Obama and Adele. The First Lady made a surprise televised appearance to present the award for Best Picture and looked spectacular! Adele sang her song “Skyfall” and definitely restored my faith in music once again. It was a good show and I can’t wait until next year’s!
Here’s Jennifer Lawrence’s hilarious press conference after the show:

So going into Django Unchained, I was a little nervous. I don’t normally seek out movies about slavery nor have I ever seen a movie by Quentin Tarantino so I really didn’t know what to expect. It also generated a lot of controversy over some of the content in the film so I really didn’t know what to expect! That being said, it ended up being a funny movie, despite the fact that it was almost 3 hours long.
The movie was about a slave named Django, portrayed by Jamie Foxx, who seeks revenge for being sold away from his wife and sets out to find her. He gets the help from a Bounty Hunter. I don’t want to give away too much of the plot and spoil the movie but let’s just say the rest of the movie involves a lot of explosions, swear words, and comedy. I was also extremely satisfied with the ending. I now want to watch one of Tarantino’s other famous films, Pulp Fiction, since I’ve heard so many great things about it.

On Saturday I saw the new Twilight movie Breaking Dawn part 1 and I actually enjoyed it! I usually watch the Twilight movies to make fun of the horrible acting and though the acting was still kind of bad I thought the plot and imagery made up for it. All of the scenery was really beautiful and really added to the movie. Considering the fact that I’ve only seen the first movie of the saga, the plot was easy to follow along to for a newbie. I look forward to seeing part 2 next year!
Though I thought this movie was good, I am more excited to see the upcoming movie Snow White & the Huntsman. It comes out next summer and stars Charlize Theron and Kristen Stewart. I do think the casting of Stewart and Snow White was weird but maybe she’ll prove me wrong when I see the movie!
Kristen’s acting in the Twilight movies is pretty mediocre so hopefully she’ll show more emotion in this movie. Her acting in Breaking Dawn improved tremendously so who knows! Charlize Theron looks so good as the evil queen in the trailer so I’m sure she won’t disappoint!
Here is a trailer for the upcoming movie.
So today in my FYS class, my teacher invited a Civil War reenactor to talk to us to really get an understanding of what life was like during that period. He brought swords and authentic clothes and invited one of the students up front so he could dress him up in the outfit. The only downside was that we weren’t allowed to touch his swords! He’s coming back to our class on Friday so hopefully we can touch them then.
Today it is so warm outside! I’ve been finding reasons to have to go outside occasionally just so I can feel it. It’s just making me anxious for summer to get here! Just a few more months!
Also, I know I’m kind of late but I tried watching the Oscars but turned it off about 30 minutes into it because I thought it was so boring and I thought the hosts were so awkward/uncomfortable! Well, I thought Anne Hathaway did her best but James Franco seemed a little weird. The next day I got to see the winners on the news and I was pleased. I really thought Natalie Portman did an excellent job in Black Swan so I’m happy she won Best Actress.

Someone built an igloo a couple days ago on campus and it has been slowly but surely melting. I've been using it as a reminder that it IS in fact getting warmer!
Last week I went into Starbucks like any other day to order my Tall Chai Tea Latte like I usually do but there was a booth called “Coffee Chat” open that said if you filled out a card for a suggestion about campus then you’d receive a free tall drink from Starbucks. This definitely made my day!
Something that made my day today is the fact that the Oscars are coming on today! I’m excited to see Anne Hathaway and James Franco host. I think they’ll be an interesting pair. Hopefully I finish my homework in time to watch it! I’m just interested in seeing which film wins Best Picture and who wins Best Actor and Actress. It’ll be a fun night for sure!
That’s all for today! Feel free to leave a comment and thanks for visiting! You can see my Twitter here.
