So I post about her enough that I felt like Miley Cyrus deserved her own Music Monday. She has probably been the most talked about celeb of the year and she’s probably my most talked about person in my life as well. I always have to update everyone in my classes on her latest antics and try to mimic them too. Although, I twerked before Miley tried it.
Over Thanksgiving Break, a video cameo out of a guy mimicking Miley’s “Wrecking Ball” music video on Chatroulette and it’s pretty hilarious. It does get creepy at times but that’s what makes it so funny. And if I ever were on Chatroulette I don’t think I’d be able to watch his whole performance but, nonetheless, he found someone to.
Last night were the American Music Awards and they were highly entertaining. I didn’t watch the red carpet because
I wasn’t interested I missed it but I was able to catch the main show. I was looking forward to all the performances, including those by Ariana Grande, Justin Timberlake, Lady Gaga, and Imagine Dragons.
Of course my favorite performance was by Miley Cyrus who had quite the performance. No, she didn’t twerk. Instead, she just performed on stage with a giant animated cat behind her and it was highly entertaining. At one point the cat even started crying and did Miley’s signature tongue out pose. Unfortunately they made everyone wait for Miley to perform at the end of the show so occasionally I got bored and did homework or other things but it ended up being a great show.
Here’s a clip of Miley’s performance:

So I’ve been inspired by my lack of being able to not spend money to become a hipster. I feel like shopping and, life in general, would be so much cheaper if I became one! …Except when I shop at Whole Foods…. To embark on my new hipster lifestyle, I’ve decided to start listening to The Beatles.
Now, I know what you’re thinking. “But everyone likes The Beatles.” Which is true, but I feel like it’s a hipster thing to do to like something everyone else likes just to be a hipster. It makes sense in my mind…. They also make perfect study music so they’ve been getting me through the day. Now I have “Eleanor Rigby” on repeat. It’s my favorite song of theirs.
Last week Eminem‘s new album came out and, although I haven’t been able to listen to the whole thing, I have heard a couple songs from it and I really like them! His first single “Berzerk” is one of my favorite songs of 2013 just by how all over the place it is and reminds me of the Beastie Boys.
His new song “Monster” with Rihanna is also one of my new favorites. It’s nothing like their previous song “Love The Way You Lie” and hopefully it won’t get overplayed as much as LTWYL was as well. It awkwardly sounds like it could be a Flo Rida song but hey, at least it’s catchy! Hopefully the video for it is good!
Last night I got a great amount of rest and was really energized and for some reason the song “Brighter Than The Sun” by Colbie Caillat was stuck in my head. Needless to say, I was in an awkwardly good mood and still am. Then I found myself on YouTube looking up her music and eventually I stumbled into some newer Jack Johnson stuff. I ended up buying his new album since it was the only album of his I don’t have and now I’ve been listening to him all morning. Sorry Colbie.
There are too many Jack Johnson songs that I love to choose a favorite but for today’s Music Monday I picked “Sitting, Waiting, Wishing” since it’s the one song of his I’m always in the mood for. His songs always make me feel like I’m just laying in a hammock on the beaches of Hawaii with not a care in the world. I love it. It’s now a goal of mine to listen to Jack Johnson on the beach, in a hammock, by a palm tree.
So I awkwardly go through off and on periods of really getting into Frank Ocean and now is one of those times. I first heard of him two summers ago when his album came out and everyone and their mom loved him. His first single “Thinkin Bout You” was my favorite song for a while until I decided to listen to his older stuff.
Now my favorite song by him is “Swim Good” from his older released stuff. It’s funny I like it because, fun fact, I don’t know how to swim so I listen to it in a weirdly ironic way. As with all of Frank Ocean’s songs I never know what they’re talking about because his lyrics are so abstract but I still appreciate it.
I have previously dedicated a Music Monday to Lorde but her album is so good that I needed to dedicate another to her to describe just how awesome her music is. Her album “Pure Heroine” is one of the few albums I can listen to from beginning to finish without skipping a track. Her songs have a minimalist sound with just a minimal beat with her voice, which I really like.
The song I’m posting for today’s Music Monday is her song “Glory And Gore,” which is my favorite song on the album. It’s kind of creepy, which is why I like it and I listen to it on repeat all the time and sing it to the top of my lungs in the car when I’m alone
or shamelessly in front of people too.
For some random reason I’ve really gotten into Taylor Swift lately, which is awkward since I like Kanye West a lot too, so I decided to dedicate today’s Music Monday to her. I can’t really relate to her lyrics but I still love her songs! On her Red album, I’d have to say my favorite songs are “Red,” “I Knew You Were Trouble,” and “Say Say Say.”
My favorite album by Taylor is “Fearless” and my favorite song of all time from her is “Love Story.” The “Love Story” video forever remains her best and it was the first song I heard by Taylor and made me discover her. And after hearing her on the radio yesterday, I decided to become a fully-fledged fan. Yes, I’m that quick to pick things up.

My obsession with the new Miley Cyrus has grown so much and I finally get to express it by purchasing her new album Bangerz tomorrow. It was just yesterday when she was a young innocent teen on Disney with her secret life as Hannah Montana and now she has grown into a wild twerking machine.
I streamed Bangerz on iTunes last week and I love almost all of the songs. My favorite is “Drive” which is rumored to be about her ex fiancé Liam Hemsworth. I also love the classics “We Can’t Stop” and “Wrecking Ball” as well. A lot of the songs on the album are mid tempos so they’re quite hard to dance to but I still make it work.
I’ll be staying up until midnight to buy the album tonight and probably won’t go to bed until 2 when I finally will get through the album and fall asleep. I hope this new Miley continues forever because my obsession is real.
Today’s music monday is dedicated to new alternative singer Lorde. You might know her from her new song “Royals” that has been all over the radio lately. Her new album “Pure Heroine” came out today and I’m obsessed. It allows me to channel my inner hipster while being current as well.
One of the things I like the most about Lorde is that she writes her own lyrics while only being 16! She has a sort of stripped back style but also has really good production in her songs too. Her songs are mostly about being proud of who she is/where she’s from.
Some of my favorite songs on the album include “Tennis Court,” “Glory and Gore,” and “Team.” The video for Tennis Court is slightly creepy but that’s what I love about it. Check it out:
