So I heard Avril Lavigne had a new music video out and I hadn’t heard much about her in years so I decided to check it out since I loved her music back in the day. What I saw next was terrifying……
The song is called “Hello Kitty” and it takes a lot of influence from Asian culture. I’m not entirely sure what’s occuring half the time but it’s entertaining nevertheless. I see Avril’s music has definitely changed a lot from the last time I heard her.
It features a lot of colors and scenes and creepy back up dancers…. I don’t really know how to describe it but it’s making waves across the Internet and I’m not one to be left behind on the latest trends so enjoy.
I was browsing the Huffington Post last week and I found the best video ever. I’ve previously documented how much I like the song Happy by Pharrell so you should’ve seen the face of happiness (get it?) I had when I saw that someone made a puppy version of it!
My favorite type of dogs/puppies have to, hands down, be Dalmatians. I deeply admire how pretentious they are and the fact that their spots add character to an otherwise boring breed. But the fact that they possess spots changes everything!
Now I’ve been inspired to rewatch 101 Dalmatians since I don’t remember paying it much attention as a kid. But while I do that, enjoy this puppy music video.
As all my friends know, I’m extremely picky over my music choices. I even only have 5 artists on my iPod! One of them being the Arctic Monkeys. I only discovered them last year despite them being formed in 2002. Needless to say, as soon as I heard them, I loved it!
Their latest album, called AM, is my favorite of their albums. It’s very hip hop influenced, which I like, and is also really dark, which I also enjoy since it makes me feel edgy. Yes, I’m easily influenced into liking things if they make me feel edgy…. Don’t judge me!
They recently covered “Hold On, We’re Going Home” by Drake and I really enjoyed it. I thought they pulled it off well considering the song is a different genre but also put their own spin on it.
Here it is:

I recently found out that Miley Cyrus will be coming to D.C. this year for her Bangerz Tour! As the massive Miley fan I am, I just have to attend! The only thing holding me back is the fact that I can’t find anyone here that wants to go. I am still determined to go. I also need to find tickets.
In case I can’t make it to the concert, I decided to watch Miley’s Unplugged MTV special. She performed country inspired versions of her current hits and at one point even brought Madonna out to perform with her. The special served as an homage to Miley’s Nashville roots.
My all time favorite Miley acoustic performance is her cover of Lana Del Rey’s “Summertime Sadness.” Lana is one of my favorite singers and I think Miley did her justice!
Today’s Music Monday is dedicated to the song “Chillin” by Wale featuring Lady Gaga. Since I’m in D.C. this semester, I’ve been trying to expand my musical selection to artists from the D.C./Maryland/Virginia area. The funny thing about this music video is that a lot of scenes are places I’ve visited or seen while here so it’s nice that I’m already starting to recognize things despite only having been here a week!
Yesterday I got to see a ton of sights as I went with my roommates shopping around the city in Georgetown. We went to a ton of stores but I ended up only getting something from Ralph Lauren. The great thing about having roommates that are from the area is that they know where everything is!
The only downside to yesterday was the cold and the fact that there was construction on the subway so it made every trip ten times as long. Fortunately for us, we just so happened to catch the subway right when it was approaching so it ended up working out!
So all on the news, there is nothing but talk about the snow and cold. I even had a hard time trying to shovel the driveway because the snow was so frozen! I basically needed a pickaxe! I’ll have to try for round two later! I shoveled enough to get out the driveway so I could go grab Starbucks. Needless to say, I got stuck trying to drive back into my driveway and had to shovel myself out. Twas embarrassing.
In honor of the never ending cold, I’ve decided to dedicate today’s Music Monday to Sevyn Streeter and her song “It Won’t Stop.” It helps that I like the song and it’s awkwardly appropriate for the weather.
So in my previous post, I talked about how I’ve been reading Pitchfork on a daily basis. Just to briefly recap, Pitchfork is this site that reviews independent music. One of the artists I discovered because of Pitchfork is a singer called King Krule.
King Krule is an artist from the UK and his stage name is inspired, ironically enough, by my favorite Elvis song “King Creole.” His music style is very indie rock with some downtempo and electronica elements as well. I first heard of him after the singer Lorde tweeted about him but I didn’t pay him much mind until I saw a good review on Pitchfork that made me decide to check him out and I found that I really like his music! Pitchfork strikes again!
So I was minding my own business, Thursday night, when I decide to get a hearty meal to celebrate my last class of the semester. That said, I decided to even go to bed early and just relax. Little did I know, Beyoncé had big plans that night. I happened to wake up at 5 AM to a couple texts, mostly along the lines of “BEYONCÉ.” I just knew something big happened.
I checked my handy dandy Internet to find out that Beyoncé released a new surprise album with no prior warning or notice entitled “BEYONCÉ” on iTunes. Not only was it an album, it also contained 17 FREE music videos! I didn’t even flinch and purchased the album on command. Then I spent the next couple of hours watching the music videos and listening to the songs all being amazed how she could keep such a big secret for so long! I guess she’s called Queen B for a reason!
All the videos are amazing, unique, and have spectacular quality. One of my favorite songs on the album is called “XO” and it’s also one of my favorite videos just because of how organic it feels. Beyoncé never disappoints and it’s why she’s my favorite artist out today. I definitely need to see her in concert!

So I’ve been getting really into alternative music lately, probably because of my new hipster lifestyle, and I’ve been discovering all of these new bands and artists because of it. Pandora Radio has also helped with this respect too. Slowly but surely my alternative music selection has been growing in my iTunes library.
One of the bands I’ve discovered are the Arctic Monkeys. They’re a group from the UK but have a lot of American influenced music styles. Their latest album is hip-hop inspired, which I love, and their music makes me twerk. So it’s basically all I’ve ever wanted in a music group.
