So last week at our weekly RA staff meeting, I was bestowed with the honors of being RA of the Week and RA of the Month. So, basically, this makes me RA of the universe. To celebrate my new reign, I decided to get snacks and drinks for my residents and held an impromptu event in my room.
Since I’m now royalty, I decided to treat myself to caviar from Whole Foods. I was expecting it to taste bitter and terrible but it was actually quite delicious. So I spent all Friday night doing homework, listening to Lana Del Rey, and eating caviar. If that’s not luxurious, I don’t know what is.
So today’s Music Monday is dedicated to Lana Del Rey. I’ve been listening to her music all day since the weather has been dreary and she has awkwardly depressing music so they go hand in hand.
The song for today is “Summertime Sadness.” It’s partially because it’s a good song and the other part is because the summer means I’m closer to having to go out into the real world which basically means the end of my youth. But on the bright side it means I won’t have any homework! The music video features Lana being dramatic, as usual, and jumping off a cliff but somehow surviving. I don’t really understand it but I love it anyway.
Today I decided to switch things up and instead of doing a Music Monday post, I decided to do a Movie Monday post. Today’s movie is “Gatsby.” The movie is coming out later this year and stars Leonardo DiCaprio as the title character. It is based off of the book of the same name. The trailer came out and it looks amazing!
Something I’m looking the most forward to regarding the movie is the soundtrack. It’s supposed to feature Beyoncé doing a cover of an Amy Winehouse song, Lana Del Rey, Jay-Z, and Florence and the Machine. Jay-Z is producing the soundtrack so I can’t wait to hear it. The trailer for the movie features some of the songs from the movie and so far it all sounds amazing.

So for the past two days everyone and their mom has been tweeting, Instagraming, and tattooing about getting Lollapalooza tickets. Personally I couldn’t get myself to buy the tickets because it was so much money for something I didn’t even know who was playing. The lineup hasn’t been announced so I wouldn’t even know if I liked the people or not. Also, outdoor festivals creep me out.
That being said, today a rumored lineup list appeared on the Internet and got me excited to say the least. It has Lana Del Rey, Azealia Banks, and other cool artists were on the list. If that’s the case, I might buy a one day pass just to see Lana and Azealia since all the other tickets were sold out.
Here’s Lana’s newest video just to get myself in the mood:

So I missed my usual Music Monday so I thought I’d make a Music Thursday! And there’s not a better way to celebrate my first Music Thursday without highlighting the video of one of my favorite artists: Lana Del Rey. Lana released the new music video to her song “Burning Desire” and of course it’s amazing. But I wouldn’t expect anything less from her.
The video features clips of the new Jaguar F-Type car since Lana has a partnership with the company as their spokesperson. It also features Lana standing on a stage and just singing, which is what I love most about the video. Sure it’s not the most exciting and riveting video, but it’s rare these days that you find a singer that can just stand and sing without all of the frills and whistles.

Today I made the journey back to Butler. And after listening to the Lana Del Rey album, twice, I finally made it back! Needless to say, campus is extremely creepy and quiet right now. I have been desperately trying to find people to no success! The positive, the laundry room is all mine!! I’m definitely taking advantage of it before all the people start to pour in.
During the day when I had free time, I decided to rearrange my room. It took a while since all of the furniture is so heavy and I had so much stuff but I eventually got it the way I want. I also vacuumed my room for the second time this year so I think I’m turning a new leaf in my life for the better, being clean!
The mess that was my room before I got it organized.

I’ve been going through a weird phase lately where I’ve been listening to alternative music. So it has been nothing but Coldplay, Muse, and Lana Del Rey for me! But starting yesterday I’ve been listening to Muse on repeat. Evidently they’ve been around since the 90s but I just discovered them a few years ago at the VMAs. And I’ve definitely been missing out! I love their music!
The song by them I’m currently loving is called “Madness,” which is on their most recent album. It reminds me of a modern take on Queen or Coldplay meets anthemic rock. The music video for the song is very interesting with technicolor lights, riot police, and a couple in a subway fighting. Basically everything I’ve ever wanted in a music video.

I’ve decided to hop on the Music Monday trend and do a review of the new Lana Del Rey music video. To give a background, Lana’s music is kind of bleak, dull, and dreary, and I love it! Her most famous song is “Video Games,” which she performed on Saturday Night Live a little bit ago. She’s currently the spokesperson for H&M and of course I had to take a picture with her picture in the store in Chicago!
Lana and I in Chicago!
The music video for her song “Ride” takes place in a desert in Nevada. Lana plays a woman who has to sleep with different men for protection/housing. The video definitely has an interesting concept. My favorite part of it is all of the scenery and the quality of the film. It’s 10 minutes long, which makes it a little lengthy, but I was entertained the whole time. I recommend watching it if you have some spare time.
