This weekend I decided to have my own little winter break before finals week starts so I went home to visit for a few days. It was fun just to relax and get a couple last minute assignments done. This morning I woke up early and drove back to Butler. Needless to say it was a fun ride considering there were no cars on the highway and I was singing songs on my iPod at the top of my lungs!
This week I only have two finals so I am looking forward to finally being done with the semester. I just have one more assignment to do today and then I’ll be able to relax! I am more excited for next semester and all the new classes I’ll be taking! The class that sounds the most interesting and different is my web design class. I’m really looking forward to it and hoping I can learn a lot of new things about web journalism!
I can also say I am officially done with my Converged Journalism Project! It took a whole semester to complete and I am really proud of it! I had so much fun filming interviews and shots, writing stories, and editing my video to put the whole thing together. My topic was education reform and Indianapolis Public Schools. Trust me, it’s more interesting than it initially sounds! It’s full of action and conflict!
Here’s the final video I made for the project
So I have to turn in two of my video projects I’ve been working on this year. One is a project I have been working on all semester about Education Reform in Indianapolis that I’ll post later when it is officially finished! That one was really fun to do for my Converged Journalism class because I had to go out and film interviews and try to get footage to cover the whole story. For that class, we also have to post our final video and project to an online blog.
For Media Literacy, me and two other people in a group had to make a Public Service announcement. For this, we decided to make a PSA raising awareness of product placement. Me and Jordan, one of my partners and the person who edited the video, are terrible actors but it is still funny to watch! Our other partner Rotnei did the voice over at the end of the video.
After this semester, I’ve had to make various video and multimedia assignments for classes and I’ve actually come to learn that I enjoy doing film. Maybe I’ll even have a career where I’ll have to do it in the future! I’m glad I learned how to do multimedia work now while I’m young instead of having to learn it in the future when things change and become more confusing!
For my Sportswriting class I had to go to three Butler sports games and write stories about them. It was definitely really fun! The first game we went to was the men’s basketball game against Northern State. It was definitely a riveting game but ultimately the team lost right at the buzzer!
After this game, there was a joke in our class that we were cursed because at each game our class covered, Butler lost. But, on Saturday, we covered the football game and basketball game and Butler won both! Butler won both games pretty easily so I was excited. It was definitely fun to write about a game that we have won for a change as well!
I also got to go home on Friday to do some laundry and I got the iPhone 4S! I have been having a lot of fun playing around with it and talking to the creepy/interesting virtual assistant, Siri.
Here is the team’s introduction for this year!
For my Converged Journalism course I have to film myself interviewing different people and scenes for my final project. It has been going really well so far! I’m almost done doing all of my interviews! My topic is about the Indianapolis Public Schools. So I’ve had to interview school officials, students, and parents. It’s been really fun learning about how to shoot different angles and finding information to put into my project!
This week, students are starting to pick and enroll in courses for next semester! I am so indecisive and still can’t decide which courses I want to take! There are so many fun courses that I can’t decide! I have a short list of about 10 classes….. Hopefully I can get it down to 5 or 6 soon!!!

Fall break is officially over and went by so fast! I had a great time visiting my friends in Chicago. We all got to catch up and even go shopping! I also got to spend some quality time with my family. My favorite part of break was definitely watching movies with my family.
But now that break is over, I have to get back to doing work! In my Converged Journalism course, I have to schedule interviews and talk to Indianapolis Public Schools officials about issues facing the schools. It is a very fun assignment that allows me to meet new and important people like the superintendent of IPS and the state schools superintendent.
Though these things are very important, I would say the most important thing that transpired this past week was my watching of the Kim Kardashian wedding. For those who don’t know Kim, let’s just say she is America’s response to Kate Middleton. Though I like Kim, I was disappointed in the special. The wedding special was a two night/two hour event but the actual wedding ceremony was only 8 minutes! But, it was still worth watching all the drama that ensued.
This is the preview for the upcoming season of the newest Kardashian show.
Today might have been one of the coldest days, EVER! I definitely regret complaining during the summer for it being too hot. It’s been raining and cloudy all day so now I am counting the days until summer comes around!
To try to take my mind away from the depressing weather, I have been doing homework all day.
My most enjoyable assignment was having to watch the news. For my Converged Journalism class, we have to watch a national newscast and a local newscast and analyze the imagery and sounds used in them to learn more about effective broadcast news strategies. During the semester, we have to shoot and write our own news segment about a certain topic. I’m really excited for it because I love learning new things and I’ve always wanted to learn how to edit videos and now I will!
Since we’re talking about watching the news, I thought I’d share this funny video of what news anchors really do during commercial breaks.
Today I have my Inside Reporting class which I’m really excited for. It’s a one day a week class so since we started class on Tuesday last week, I haven’t been to it yet. Since it’s only on one day, it’s a 2.5 hour class. I’ve never had to sit in the same seat for so long! Hopefully it’ll be fun so my mind won’t be on the length. I like writing so I’m sure it’ll be fine.
Last night I got sick and thought that I would have to miss class. Thank goodness I felt better when I woke up. I haven’t missed a class all year and I didn’t want to start this semester that way. It was weird because I hardly ever get sick. Hopefully it doesn’t come back!
That’s all for today! Thanks for visiting and feel free to leave a comment. I love getting in touch with readers.

In a massage chair at the mall downtown. It was painful to say the least!
So the semester hasn’t even started yet but I already have an assignment! For my literature class I have to write about 250-500 words about “movement.” I actually like this assignment! For one it isn’t that long of an assignment and, since I’m a Journalism major, I love writing!
I picked up my books for the next semester and I’m excited to get into these new books. The one that looks most interesting is called “The Man Who Was Thursday” by G.K. Chesterton. It’s only 120 pages so that’s definitely appealing!
