As you may know from reading my blog, visiting the National Zoo has become like a weekly thing for me. The weather has been beautiful lately and was even in the sixties last week! I didn’t even have to wear a jacket and it’s February!
Since the weather permitted, I walked around the zoo for a bit just to get some fresh air and to wind down from a busy week. I finished up a big paper for my politics class so I was proud of myself and rewarded myself with some quality animal time.
Unfortunately, my little animal friends still haven’t inspired me enough to become a vegetarian but I’m going to Whole Foods later so who knows what kind of diet I’ll assume then! My favorite animal of choice for this visit was a slow turtle. I personally identified with him since I am a slow runner. But slow and steady always wins the race! I named him Cory after the main character in the show Boy Meets World because I just recently started rewatching it and I’ve been sucked in. It’s so good!
Cory on the move!
Before the Georgetown game, our group of interns was able to attend a DC Butler alum event. It was held in a nice restaurant in downtown D.C. that was reserved just for the event.
There were a ton of alums at the event and they were all really friendly! I met some alums that were from my part of Indiana and relocated to D.C. because of grad schools, jobs, etc. They were really helpful to talk to as I’m currently debating where I want to locate to for grad school. It was definitely reassuring to see how many connections in the area/nationally Butler has, which was something I didn’t realize previously.
We were joined at the lunch, which was delicious Italian food by the way, by LJ, President Danko, and most importantly Blue 3. Of course I got my photo op with Blue. He was getting a bit rowdy at the event but made sure not to be too much of a diva to take a photo with me.
Blue 3 and I representing Butler well in D.C.!
Last week us Butler interns were able to attend the Butler vs. Georgetown basketball game and it was a lot of fun! Unfortunately the Bulldogs lost but they still put up a great effort. The game was held at the Verizon Center in D.C. and was my first game of the season so what an entrance! The stadium was really nice and large and so state of the art. I could live there!
I sat with the other interns so we all chatted the whole time. I got to talk with the President of Butler alumni’s D.C. chapter and we both got to share our favorite DC/Butler experiences.
One interesting thing about the game was that it was definitely weird being at a Butler game where the majority of the people weren’t rooting for Butler and it wasn’t at Hinkle! Thankfully Georgetown’s mascot is also the bulldog so we blended in thankfully!
View from my seat of the game!
Last week during my internship, they were holding a health fair and in order to entice people to attend, the Washington Redskins Quarterback Kirk Cousins was there! I’m not much of a football aficionado, even though I can pretend to care when I have to, but I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to meet a pro NFL player even though I didn’t really know him. I waited in line for about 25 minutes but I eventually got close enough and got a picture with him.
After he took a picture with me, he then signed one of the magazines they were handing out. He was extremely nice while meeting me and was pretty tall. Now that I’ve met him, I’m sure my sports prowess will rub off on him and the Redskins will win the Super Bowl next year.
In the heat of meeting him, I totally forgot that there was a health fair going on! So even though I didn’t get a flu shot like the event intended, I was able to spin a wheel and won a mood ring. In case you were wondering, when I put it on it said I was depressed…… Awkward…….
I leave for D.C. in less than 24 hours and in regular André fashion, I haven’t started packing yet. It hasn’t hit me yet that I’ll be living there for the next few months. I guess it’ll probably seem real once I’m there. I don’t even know who I’m living with yet so that’ll be fun meeting my roommates for the first time!
I’ve already downloaded a D.C. metro app already for my trip. Everyone who has gone before claims it’s oh so easy to navigate but I’ll believe it when I see it. The app is tailored so it tells you where to go based on your location and it has gotten rave reviews so I’m sure it’ll work its way out once I’m there.
I hate to cut this blog short but I have to get started packing…. It’s hard figuring out which clothes I’m bringing with me immediately and which clothes I plan on having mailed to me in a week. It’s hard because I want to bring everything!
The totality of my packing so far….. Not very much….
So I was minding my own business, Thursday night, when I decide to get a hearty meal to celebrate my last class of the semester. That said, I decided to even go to bed early and just relax. Little did I know, Beyoncé had big plans that night. I happened to wake up at 5 AM to a couple texts, mostly along the lines of “BEYONCÉ.” I just knew something big happened.
I checked my handy dandy Internet to find out that Beyoncé released a new surprise album with no prior warning or notice entitled “BEYONCÉ” on iTunes. Not only was it an album, it also contained 17 FREE music videos! I didn’t even flinch and purchased the album on command. Then I spent the next couple of hours watching the music videos and listening to the songs all being amazed how she could keep such a big secret for so long! I guess she’s called Queen B for a reason!
All the videos are amazing, unique, and have spectacular quality. One of my favorite songs on the album is called “XO” and it’s also one of my favorite videos just because of how organic it feels. Beyoncé never disappoints and it’s why she’s my favorite artist out today. I definitely need to see her in concert!

So this weekend I took the LSAT and have been stressed about it/been studying for it all semester. If I’ve met you, I’ve probably talked to you about it at some point because it has preoccupied most of my time. My residents knew how much I was stressed about it so the night before the test they all wrote funny/encouraging notes from my favorite celebrities saying I’d do well on the test and taped them to my door.
Twas nice waking up to these notes right before I go take my test!
After my test, my best friend Karleen and her friend Patrick got me my favorite box of poptarts and treated me to lunch since I hadn’t eaten all day. I spent the rest of the day hanging out with them and then took a well-deserved nap after not having to be as stressed anymore…. For now at least…..
The troublesome trio. I’ve never seen so much personality in one photo! I’ll ignore Patricks creepy face…
So I’ve been studying for different tests and assignments for the past couple of weeks and I decided to give myself a break today. I had a Spanish presentation today so I thought I deserved a nice little break from all my homework and assignments. So after my last class today, I came back to my room and took a nice long nap. Plus it was snowing outside so I was nice and warm in my bed.
Now, for the past hour or so I’ve been laying in bed, listening to classical music, and drinking tea. Needless to say, I feel classy. I might go to Whole Foods tomorrow and pick up more tea since I’m running low and I’m trying to taper off drinking coffee. Here’s the classical music mix I’ve been listening to in order to relax:
So I post about her enough that I felt like Miley Cyrus deserved her own Music Monday. She has probably been the most talked about celeb of the year and she’s probably my most talked about person in my life as well. I always have to update everyone in my classes on her latest antics and try to mimic them too. Although, I twerked before Miley tried it.
Over Thanksgiving Break, a video cameo out of a guy mimicking Miley’s “Wrecking Ball” music video on Chatroulette and it’s pretty hilarious. It does get creepy at times but that’s what makes it so funny. And if I ever were on Chatroulette I don’t think I’d be able to watch his whole performance but, nonetheless, he found someone to.
Today is another Thanksgiving and before I go downstairs and eat with my family I decided to do a quick blog before I go celebrate. Unfortunately I have homework to do today so I won’t be able to celebrate long but at least it’ll be nice to have some time to relax.
I missed the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade today because I overslept but I’m sure I’ll catch clips online. I always think it’s funny that a lot of people try to skip Thanksgiving and as soon as Halloween ends go right forward to Christmas. To get people in a more Thanksgiving loving mood, here is a funny Thanksgiving video to get you in the mood:
