Happy New Year! First blog post of the year!
It’s so weird thinking about entering a new year! I didn’t get to know 2013 for all that long! My biggest struggle this year will be remembering to write 2014 on everything instead of 2013. Heck, I was still writing 2012 on things in December of 2013! Instead of going out on New Year’s, I just laid in bed reading. Sure it’s a nerdy way to ring in the New Year but it was relaxing nonetheless.
While watching the news I saw that Dubai set the record for World’s Largest Firework Display on New Years. I’ve always wanted to visit Dubai and I’m sure it would’ve been quite a sight to see in person. I’m not usually a fireworks person but I would’ve made an exception this time.
Today is another Thanksgiving and before I go downstairs and eat with my family I decided to do a quick blog before I go celebrate. Unfortunately I have homework to do today so I won’t be able to celebrate long but at least it’ll be nice to have some time to relax.
I missed the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade today because I overslept but I’m sure I’ll catch clips online. I always think it’s funny that a lot of people try to skip Thanksgiving and as soon as Halloween ends go right forward to Christmas. To get people in a more Thanksgiving loving mood, here is a funny Thanksgiving video to get you in the mood:
All week people have been wearing costumes and although I do like being wacky, for some reason I can just never get creative enough to dress up as anything for Halloween. Even as a kid I was a Debbie Downer and never dressed up for Halloween because I just didn’t care enough. Besides, I like investing my energy into real holidays like Christmas and Thanksgiving.
Tonight I plan on giving candy to my residents in my hallway and
probably not play Halloween music on my speakers with my door open. I can say I have gotten into the spirit by having a pumpkin in my room but I’m scared it’s going to rot so I think I might have to get rid of it soon…..
Me posing with Achilles for Halloween!
So April Fools, hands down, is my least favorite holiday. This is usually surprising to people since I’m sort of outgoing and wacky but no, it’s literally the worst thing since green beans. That being said, Google, as much as I love them, has gotten crazy with it and have created two new April Fools videos, one of which actually got me… One, which I can’t believe got me, is Google Nose which is supposedly new software that allows you to upload smells and send it to your friends via phones.
The second, which is more believable but thankfully I didn’t fall for, is Gmail Blue, which is basically Gmail but everything is blue. The thing I liked about this video is that it sort of disses Apple for creating the same product but pretending it’s different just with one little change. I guess it’s kind of funny to see such a large corporation really get into the spirit of the holiday but since I hate being tricked, I’ll like it from a distance!
I will admit both are very amusing and I’m curious to see what they come up with next year!

Yesterday we had our annual blogger’s Christmas Party at our boss’, Kristen’s, house. And once again, it was a blast! When we first got there, thanks to Katie‘s glorious driving, we were able to eat. Kristen had prepared us some delicious food and I definitely ate too much! While we ate, all of us bloggers got to catch up and talk about the current state of our semesters and how things have been since the last time we met up.
After we chatted, we proceeded to watch the movie Elf. Elf is one of those movies that almost everyone else but me has seen and everyone seemingly quotes it and references it and I never get the jokes. But I unfortunately could not concentrate as there was only one thing on my mind, building the Gingerbread house. I’ve never built one before so it was definitely a life-changing experience. I designated myself as being the person who placed the icing that held the house together so needless to say, I had the most important job.
Afterwards, Kristen gave us all gifts and we were able to make it back to Butler, where I started studying for finals.

Last week was the Jewish celebration of Yom Kippur and of course I had to participate. Two of my residents invited me to go with them and I quickly obliged. Jewish people usually fast for the holiday but I wasn’t that committed! Although I did eat two smaller meals instead of nice healthy ones like I usually do.
The synagogue we went too was very close to Butler. We got there very quickly and stayed there for two services. The first was a memorial and reflection service and the second one was one for repentance of sins. It was definitely a new experience hearing people speaking Hebrew. My favorite part was wearing the yamaka. It was a really fun and entertaining experience and hopefully I’ll be able to celebrate more things with them!

April Fools Day is my least favorite holiday. This may be surprising since I love making jokes, but I hate being on the receiving end of pranks! Last year I successfully made it through the day without being pranked so hopefully I can enjoy the same fate today! I’m really gullible so usually I forget that the day is April Fools and I end up believing whatever people tell me. But today, I’ll have my guards up!
One thing that will keep my mind off of the day is the fact that my birthday is Wednesday! I got some of my birthday money early so of course I went out shopping on Friday. I was actually good with my spending and I still have over half of it left. I’m usually more picky on what I buy when I have a lot of money as opposed to when I barely have any and I want to buy everything! So hopefully I can make it last a long time.
Being my usual jokester self on Valentine's Day! THAT'S a holiday I actually like!
I spent my whole day in Chicago yesterday visiting my friend Hayley. It was definitely a fun way of ending my Spring Break.
When I first got there, I had to get out of my car and let Hayley take the wheel because there was only one parking spot at her dorm and it was a really tight parallel spot. In case I haven’t mentioned it before, I am completely incapable of parking properly. After it took her for what it seems like 15 minutes to get in the spot, we decided to walk around and see all the people dressed in green since it was St. Patrick’s Day. I forgot to wear green but thankfully no one pinched me!
After we walked around, Hayley had a dance receital with her dance team from Loyola at UIC so I went with her there. It was really fun seeing the team perform and might attend another of their performances next month! After the competition we all went to McDonald’s and then walked back to her dorm where we spent the rest of the night telling funny stories of the summer before!
It ended up being a really fun day and it made me more excited about summer since the weather has been so nice lately!
Here's the team on stage during their performance
Everyone is getting excited on my local news stations for St. Patrick’s Day and I feel like I’m the one who awkwardly isn’t. I think the only reason why I’m not excited is because I don’t have anything green to wear! That’s really funny considering the fact that green is my favorite color. So hopefully no one pinches me!
My friend Jessica wants to go to the St Patty’s Day parade in downtown Chicago tomorrow so I might end up doing that! The only thing that might prevent me from going is the fact that there are supposed to be isolated thunderstorms that day! I’ve never been to a big parade on that level so I do think it would be a really fun experience. So I’ll just have to wait and see!
Here’s a scene from my favorite Disney movie, “The Luck of the Irish.” They’re playing it on Disney this weekend so if I don’t go to the parade I’ll be at home watching!
