Yesterday freshmen were allowed to move onto campus and it has been hectic ever since! They have been invading all the buildings and it is basically mayhem. Well not really, but it’s close. I tried going to the bookstore yesterday but decided against it since there were so many of them trying to get books! So hopefully things will be clear today and I’ll be able to finish getting the rest of my books.
Since freshmen moved in yesterday, that means my 10 freshmen residents also moved in! It was very exciting and we’ve all bonded and gotten to know each other already. I had my first unit meeting with them yesterday and it made me excited for the year already!
My friend Elizabeth and I were reunited since she's working as a Student Orientation Guide
So I just got word that I’ll be having freshmen in my unit as well as sophomores and international students which I’m excited about because now I get to participate in all the Welcome Week activities I missed as a freshman (FYI I missed them because I was sick). And since freshmen move in earlier than sophomores, there will be less time for my unit being empty since I have to move in early for RA training.
Although I’m looking forward to Block Party, I’m most excited to see what Play Fair is. Everyone says it’s their favorite part of welcome week but since I missed it last year, I’m curious to see what makes it so fun.
Here’s a video showing what Play Fair is:
One of the great things about Butler is that though it is a small campus, there are so many clubs and activities to do and join. There are over 115 student organizations on campus which means there are definitely a lot of opportunities to get involved and meet new people.
I remember as an incoming freshman I wondered how I was gong to find out about and even join these clubs! Well that’s where Block Party comes in. Block Party is where all the student organizations on campus set up tables on the mall and everyone on campus is invited to go take a look at each one and sign up for the ones they are interested in. Each table usually has free items and you’re almost always guaranteed to go home with arms full of stuff!
Even all the fraternities and sororities have tables so if you’re interested in Greek life there’ll be tons of information of that as well. Here’s a quick video just showing how many people show up and what the atmosphere is like at Block Party. This year Block Party is on Tuesday August 21 from 5-7 p.m.
I wish I knew about this as an incoming freshman so I decided to make a post about how to find a roommate with similar interests on Facebook. Here are the steps:
1. Go to the Butler University Class of 2016 page.
2. In between Videos and the Packing List, click Notes.
3. Once in notes, click Roommate Finder where you can fill out the survey and find others with similar interests that you would like to be roommates with!
So far there are 272 responses so I’m sure you’ll find a match! I had no idea this existed when I was coming into Butler so be sure to take advantage!
I decided for today’s blog post, I’d make a list of my top ten favorite things about being back on campus! There were so many things, it was hard to cut it down to ten but here it goes:
1. Finally being reunited with all my friends!
2. Having an air conditioned dorm
3. Starting new classes and meeting new people
4. Getting to go to Starbucks every day
5. Randomly seeing Butler Blue 2 on campus
6. Going to see different events at Clowes Hall
7. Getting my weekly workout in at the HRC
8. Getting chased by awkwardly obese squirrels
9. Going to sports games (Especially basketball!)
10. Participating in all the new organizations I’m part of

Here’s a cool video of this year’s freshman class forming a Bulldog during Welcome Week
On Friday night, everyone on campus crowded into Hinkle Fieldhouse to see the Freshmen Skits! For those not familiar with it, it is where all the fraternities and sororities put on skits for the schools to a theme where judges decide who wins and best went along with the theme. This year’s theme was “Blue Goes to Hollywood!” The event was three hours long but was TOTALLY worth it!
One of the highlights of the night was when the freshmen from TKE threw out pieces of fried chicken to the audience! I really hope whoever caught them didn’t eat it (Who knows how long they had it!)! It was definitely one of the more humorous performances.
After much deliberation the two winning houses ended up being Phi Psi (for guys) and Alpha Phi (for girls)! I think they were both well-deserving of the win and I can’t wait to attend next year!

That’s all for today! Feel free to leave a comment and thanks for visiting!
