I Am Picasso

This past weekend I had to work on my Spanish final project with my group. We decided to use our project to highlight the issue of violence, specifically in Chile in the 1970s. None of us are artists in the slightest but we somehow managed to make our paintings look slightly recognizable.

The pictures deal with the kidnapping of innocent people, the holding of political prisoners, and the glimmer of hope for people during the time. This has been the focus lately in my Mysterious Stories Spanish course and it has definitely been interesting since I have previously talked about the same subject matter in some of my Political Science courses. Hopefully we get a good grade!

Growing Pile

So I have been stocking up on things I need for my room since I go back to campus in a little over a week and I decided, what better way to spend my ~~money~~ time than by going to Target? I literally stocked up on everything: air freshener, Tylenol, and even toothpaste. For some reason I always get scared second semester that there is going to be an unnecessarily large blizzard that will keep me trapped in my dorm for a month so I want to make sure I’m prepared.

I’ve been collecting all of my items in a little pile in my living room, much to the dismay of my family. But good news for them, I’m rapidly running out of Christmas money, especially since I bought $100 worth of goodies from Target…. I only have to buy gifts for two people and I’ll be done with shopping, I hope.

Merry Christmas!

For those who celebrate, Merry Christmas everyone! I hope everyone has a great and warm holiday this year. Before the eating and unwrapping of gifts begins, I wanted to make a quick blog to talk about the holiday and such.

Thankfully it’s not snowing outside because 1. “White Christmas” is one of my least favorite Christmas songs and 2. I hate the cold. It’s also good because I plan to go shopping tomorrow with all of my Christmas money and the roads need to be clear to make way for me!

One of my favorite Christmas songs, however, is “All I Want For Christmas Is You” by Mariah Carey. But since I’ve been listening to Michael Bublé’s Christmas album, I thought I’d post his version! His voice is reminiscent of drinking hot chocolate by the fire on a cold day. That basically means I love it! Even though I’ve never actually done that and I hate hot chocolate, his music is just too good.

Trash Galore

So today the residence halls officially closed which means if you’re an RA you have to inspect rooms and check out residents. But, of course I waited until the last minute to pack and empty my trash so that’s how I spent my last night on campus. I stayed up until 1 packing and dancing around my room. When I decided to take out my trash, there was seriously a mountain of trash in the trash room. I guess everyone else had the same idea as me to pack late too! I eventually fell asleep and had to wake up at 6 to check out one of my residents.

I also have breaking news in my life… I got rid of my Justin Bieber cardboard cutout. He was a great roommate but we had our differences. I will hopefully be replacing him next semester. I can’t decide if I should get a new cardboard cutout or get a plant. I’ll probably get a plant so I can perform experiments on it #strange.

Christmas Shopping

Today I went Christmas shopping for all the people I need to go shopping for. Not only did I get my friend Karleen part 2 of her Christmas gift, I also got a little Christmas gift for myself from J Crew. I got a nice new sweater that will hopefully get me through finals week next week! But until then, I’ll just have to make do with what’s already in my closet.

It was also surprisingly crowded at the mall today. I literally had to park in the last row of cars so evidently everyone else got the bright idea to go Christmas shopping today just like me. Hopefully all the people I bought gifts for like them! Christmas shopping is my least favorite thing to do because I never know what to give people. I’d rather just give a gift card!

Music Monday Madness

I’ve been going through a weird phase lately where I’ve been listening to alternative music. So it has been nothing but Coldplay, Muse, and Lana Del Rey for me! But starting yesterday I’ve been listening to Muse on repeat. Evidently they’ve been around since the 90s but I just discovered them a few years ago at the VMAs. And I’ve definitely been missing out! I love their music!

The song by them I’m currently loving is called “Madness,” which is on their most recent album. It reminds me of a modern take on Queen or Coldplay meets anthemic rock. The music video for the song is very interesting with technicolor lights, riot police, and a couple in a subway fighting. Basically everything I’ve ever wanted in a music video.

Christmas Shopping Day

Today, since I did not have classes, I dedicated to purchasing Christmas gifts for those I have to buy gifts for! My biggest priority was buying a gift for my best pal Karleen. I know she reads my blog so I won’t reveal the contents of the gift but hopefully she likes it! There is also an RA Secret Santa giveaway and I had to buy a gift for another one of the RAs so hopefully he or she likes their gift as well! I usually go down the giftcard route for Christmas gifts but I decided to give real gifts this year instead.

After I got back to campus, I saw none other than the cutest baby in the world roaming campus, little baby Violet. Of course I had to take a picture with her! You can obviously tell by the disinterested/worried look on her face that I’m her favorite person in the world. I just have that effect on people, especially children.

Back in Gear

I’m finally back at Butler! After an extremely short week off, I finally made it back this morning. Last night, I’m assuming because I was so anxious to come back, I could not for the life of me fall asleep! I tried all the tricks in the book: relaxing, counting sheep, hiding under the covers, crying, puking, anything! Well maybe not all of that but close. I fell asleep around 2:30 and woke up at 6:30 to drive back. And after a two hour drive, I finally made it!

Once I got to my room, I immediately grabbed a Red Bull so I wouldn’t collapse and unpacked all of my things. Then I printed out all of the papers I wrote during break before everyone else in my building returned before the printer jammed, which always seemingly happens! Afterwards I was able to go get frozen yogurt with my friends to get ready for classes tomorrow.

Break Fun: The Library

Even though I spent a couple days relaxing and doing nothing this break, most of my time was spent doing homework, completing assignments, and working on projects. Today I decided to go to this strange place called the public library and work on my research literature review. I periodically did my homework one course a day during the break so it was a relief to finally get the ball rolling on this last assignment before going back to Butler tomorrow.

With Lana Del Rey on shuffle, I was ready to go! I got through planning my paper and finding all the sources and sites I need to get going. I got a couple pages done but I still have a lot more to go. Hopefully I can get it done by the end of the week.

Magnificent Parade

Yesterday I went to downtown Chicago and attended the Magnificent Mile Lights Festival and I really enjoyed it! I had the secret hope of being on the news but I unfortunately didn’t make an appearance. Maybe next time! The parade/lights show marked the first time that all the Christmas lights in the city were being officially lit up.

There were seemingly millions of people in the streets and I could barely get a good view of the parade! I was tempted to get on someone’s shoulders and pretend they were my parent but decided against it. My favorite balloon was that of Rudolph because, I can’t tell if it was because of the wind or the people holding the strings, he was knocking into the crowd and it was very entertaining.
