Spoke Too Soon!

So it is raining today. I got so excited yesterday since it was so hot out. But it was nice to at least get one day on warmth in! I’m sure once June rolls around it’ll be nice and hot! But for now, I guess I’ll just have to leave my shorts in the closet and pull out my jeans.

I am part of the College Democrats group at Butler and I’m helping to set up our visit to the Capitol. It should be really fun. I got to get a tour of the Capitol this summer in Ambassadors of Change where freshmen got to move in a week early and get to know each other while doing service projects around the city. It is definitely something I recommend to all incoming freshmen! It was a great way to make friends coming into college and it was great to be able to give back to the community.

Meeting Senator Lugar

I’m a member of Butler’s College Democrats club and yesterday we met with the College Republicans and had a Civil Engagement Forum in Irwin Library on campus. It was even better because Senator Lugar came and spoke at the gathering.  His speech touched on a variety of topics, starting with his early political career to his current clash with the Tea Party. At the end there was a Q&A session where students could ask him questions.

At the end of the meeting everyone was invited to come and meet the senator. I got to shake his hand and I even got to talk to him about how we have the same birthday! It was definitely nice to see one of our nation’s lawmakers take time to come to our campus and talk to students.

Thanks for visiting my blog! Feel free to leave a comment!

The Busy Week Continues….

Last night the College Democrats organization had dinner at the advisor’s home. It was good to finally have a home cooked meal in college and it was a great experience to have. We discussed various political and social issues and ate Greek and Middle Eastern food. Many students from small schools boast that they have had dinner at a teacher’s house and I can now finally say the same!

I have a lot of assignments this week. They include: a Spanish test, writing a paper for Irish Literature (FYS), reading for Chemistry, and write and conduct an interview with a Butler faculty member for my writing class. I’m going to try to get as much of it done tonight but I am really excited for the new episode of Glee tonight so I will have a limited time to do it. It is the new Britney Spears episode and it is supposed to be good. Some of my friends are supposed to come to my dorm so we can all watch it together!

That’s all for today!

My Weekend!

Instead of joining in with my fellow freshmen on various weekend activities, I went home to visit my high school for its Homecoming weekend! I got to see old friends again and even unexpectedly made new ones. I also got to visit my friends at Loyola University in Chicago.

Since my weekend was all fun, now I’m spending my Sunday night like most students: doing homework! I have a math test and a Spanish quiz coming up this week so hopefully I do well! I also have two papers to write for my First Year Seminar class.

I am part of the College Democrats organization at Butler and tomorrow we will be meeting at our faculty advisor’s home and there will be a special guest at the meeting as well.

That’s all for today!
