Last week Eminem‘s new album came out and, although I haven’t been able to listen to the whole thing, I have heard a couple songs from it and I really like them! His first single “Berzerk” is one of my favorite songs of 2013 just by how all over the place it is and reminds me of the Beastie Boys.
His new song “Monster” with Rihanna is also one of my new favorites. It’s nothing like their previous song “Love The Way You Lie” and hopefully it won’t get overplayed as much as LTWYL was as well. It awkwardly sounds like it could be a Flo Rida song but hey, at least it’s catchy! Hopefully the video for it is good!
On Friday I attended my friend Elissa’s White Coat Ceremony for being a PA Major at Clowes. I got to sit with her parents and our friend Lisa and twas a grand time! Her parents were so precious and nice and we had a fun time chatting it up during the ceremony. It was almost like watching a graduation ceremony seeing all the PA and Pharmacy majors walk across stage and get their coats. I also got to see my other pals who are PA & Pharmacy majors walk across as well and celebrate with their families.
Afterwards I was starving and ran over to the dining hall and since it’s Friday they had fish which, if you know me, makes me very happy. Fish Fridays are literally the highlight of my life and I always get awkwardly enthusiastic whenever they serve fish on Fridays. It’s just a little something that makes Friday just a little but better.
Me, Lisa, and Elissa in her white coat!
So last year I got a Justin Bieber cardboard cutout just to be creepy and funny
and put in in people’s rooms when they’re not there to scare them. I planned to get a One Direction cutout this year but I couldn’t decide which member I wanted to buy. Obviously Liam is the best because he’s the most talented but I didn’t know which to buy for comedic effect. I don’t really like One Direction or Bieber but I just think it would be funny to have a cutout of one of them to hang out with.
Last year when I got Justin my friend Karleen and I took him around our building and had a weird impromptu photoshoot with him. Sure people stared but that made it even funner! Hopefully when I come back from Thanksgiving Break I’ll come bearing a cutout. I could really use ideas on what to get!
Our pal Justin just hanging out.
Last night I got a great amount of rest and was really energized and for some reason the song “Brighter Than The Sun” by Colbie Caillat was stuck in my head. Needless to say, I was in an awkwardly good mood and still am. Then I found myself on YouTube looking up her music and eventually I stumbled into some newer Jack Johnson stuff. I ended up buying his new album since it was the only album of his I don’t have and now I’ve been listening to him all morning. Sorry Colbie.
There are too many Jack Johnson songs that I love to choose a favorite but for today’s Music Monday I picked “Sitting, Waiting, Wishing” since it’s the one song of his I’m always in the mood for. His songs always make me feel like I’m just laying in a hammock on the beaches of Hawaii with not a care in the world. I love it. It’s now a goal of mine to listen to Jack Johnson on the beach, in a hammock, by a palm tree.
So ResCo held a Halloween banner contest where each unit could decorate a banner and each unit has to compete against each other. My residents spent hours on it and the finished product was amazing! Everyone in the hallway pooled together supplies and resources such as paint, colored paper, brushes, and decorations. The theme of the banner had to have a mix of Butler, your unit, and Halloween themes.
The winner was supposed to be announced on Halloween but after a power outage that made the whole building literally have to spend the night in the dining hall, it wasn’t. We didn’t get to return to our building until 4 AM which was extremely inconvenient but at least classes in one of the academic buildings was canceled. The winner still hasn’t been announced but we’re waiting with crossed fingers that it was our unit. The winning unit wins a pizza party so we’ll see who reigns supreme.
I have previously dedicated a Music Monday to Lorde but her album is so good that I needed to dedicate another to her to describe just how awesome her music is. Her album “Pure Heroine” is one of the few albums I can listen to from beginning to finish without skipping a track. Her songs have a minimalist sound with just a minimal beat with her voice, which I really like.
The song I’m posting for today’s Music Monday is her song “Glory And Gore,” which is my favorite song on the album. It’s kind of creepy, which is why I like it and I listen to it on repeat all the time and sing it to the top of my lungs in the car when I’m alone
or shamelessly in front of people too.
So over fall break I decided to visit my friend Hayley who goes to Loyola in Chicago. We hung around her apartment for a bit and then went shopping at H&M (of course) downtown. It’s funny because I already have an order on its way from H&M already but I just can’t be stopped.
Afterwards we went to a Loyola basketball pep rally for their new season. It was cute I guess but it just didn’t compare to the celebrations we throw at Butler! It was interesting to see how other schools celebrate and to see their gymnasium. Plus I got a free T-Shirt and got to take a picture with their mascot so it ended up being fun!
Being there did make me excited for the Butler basketball season! I can’t wait to be front row in the Dawg Pound to support our Dawgs this year, especially since it’s my last year!
Me and the Loyola mascot.
For some random reason I’ve really gotten into Taylor Swift lately, which is awkward since I like Kanye West a lot too, so I decided to dedicate today’s Music Monday to her. I can’t really relate to her lyrics but I still love her songs! On her Red album, I’d have to say my favorite songs are “Red,” “I Knew You Were Trouble,” and “Say Say Say.”
My favorite album by Taylor is “Fearless” and my favorite song of all time from her is “Love Story.” The “Love Story” video forever remains her best and it was the first song I heard by Taylor and made me discover her. And after hearing her on the radio yesterday, I decided to become a fully-fledged fan. Yes, I’m that quick to pick things up.

This weekend I got to celebrate my last official Homecoming as a student at Butler. It was definitely bittersweet but I had so much fun! There were so many activities on campus the past few days, including bouncy rides on the mall, food trucks, random giveaways, and other activities.
This morning they held the Bulldog Beauty contest where people can enter their bulldogs to get judged in a contest. Afterwards there was the football tailgate and the game itself. Thankfully we won the game so it ended up being great all around!
Also, I was prominently featured in one of the Butler sponsored videos about staying safe on Homecoming so once again I’d like to acknowledge how I’m keeping campus safe one day at a time. No big deal. You can see me at 1:15.
Yesterday for my class on The Politics of Harry Potter and the Hunger Games, we had a guest speaker, Bethany Barratt, who wrote one of the books we read for class, come talk to us about her thoughts on human rights and the series and how it relates to politics. We had a great conversation with her in class about how the Harry Potter series can have common daily political analogies and themes that were relevant to human rights, political mobilization, and youth in politics.
After our class discussion we all went over to Atherton for dinner where we got to discuss more closely some of the themes and get to know her on a more personal level. We also got to eat some delicious Asian food! Good job, Aramark! Finally, we ended our day with listening to Barratt speak about human rights more generally and how the language used to describe it has shifted post 9/11.
Me and my pal Austin waiting on food! You can tell he was overjoyed with excitement.
