DC Alumni Event

Before the Georgetown game, our group of interns was able to attend a DC Butler alum event. It was held in a nice restaurant in downtown D.C. that was reserved just for the event.

There were a ton of alums at the event and they were all really friendly! I met some alums that were from my part of Indiana and relocated to D.C. because of grad schools, jobs, etc. They were really helpful to talk to as I’m currently debating where I want to locate to for grad school. It was definitely reassuring to see how many connections in the area/nationally Butler has, which was something I didn’t realize previously.

We were joined at the lunch, which was delicious Italian food by the way, by LJ, President Danko, and most importantly Blue 3. Of course I got my photo op with Blue. He was getting a bit rowdy at the event but made sure not to be too much of a diva to take a photo with me.

Remembering Blue

Since I didn’t get to blog about it when it happened, today I wanted to blog about Butler’s dearly departed mascot, Blue 2. Blue died earlier this month and it definitely took campus by storm. Everyone’s Facebook and Twitter statuses were filled with grief but also gratitude toward Blue for being such a faithful mascot for so long.

There was a memorial held for Blue in the bookstore with a painting of him and a slideshow showing photos of him from when he was a puppy. I must admit, even I almost shed a tear while looking at it. I regretted having never gotten a photo with him so I’ll be sure to get one with Tripp as soon as possible.

Although it’s sad that Butler is mourning an icon, it also serves as an opportunity for Butler’s newest mascot, Tripp, to step into a leading role now and be the bulldog that raises the spirit of campus. Can’t wait to see him in action!

Pie a Pi Phi

Last week I just happened to be walking on the mall when I saw blogger Katie at her sorority’s philanthropy event. It was “Pie A Pi Phi.” If you donated money to the cause they were raising for, you were able to pie one of the sorority members. Normally I am opposed to wasting such good food but it was for charity. I, unfortunately, did not have any cash on hand but I gave my moral support to the cause.

Even Blue 2 and Blue 3 participated in the festivities by getting pied and licking whipped cream off of people’s faces! Let’s just say that those dogs are out of control. Even VP for Student Affairs LJ (Levester Johnson) got involved! To see more about it, you can check out Katie’s post.
