Today was Mardi Gras and it was a lot of fun! Unfortunately I was not able to go to New Orleans but I was able to go to the Mardi Gras event held in Resco. Last year I couldn’t go because I was busy but this year I was able to attend! There was so much food! They had Yats, candy, and King Cake. I’ve never had King Cake before so that was exciting to try and it was delicious!
There were many activities too! There was mask decorating, caricatures, and psychic readings. I was able to decorate a mask but I was too scared to go to the psychic for the fear of her telling me that I was going to die in like five minutes. Luckily, I didn’t! I ended my Mardi Gras night with photos in the photo booth and needless to say I’m surprised I didn’t break the booth with all the photos I took! I can’t wait to attend again next year!
Waiting in line for food!!

Last night was the Grammys on CBS and, since none of my favorite artists were performing, I kept watching on and off while doing homework. The show was ok and had a couple of noteworthy highlights. For me, the best performances were from Justin Timberlake and Maroon 5 & Alicia Keys. My favorite presenters were Beyoncé (obviously) and Ellen Degeneres.
There were a couple of surprises in terms of winners for awards. I was surprised Frank Ocean did not win Album of the Year. I was also surprised to see Adele still snatching in some awards after she dominated last year. The awards show this year made me anticipate the show next year since there will be more artists I like/know in attendance so I can’t wait!
The performance of the night.

Yesterday was Founder’s Day on campus and it was actually pretty fun! There were different celebrations on campus commemorating Ovid Butler‘s, Butler’s founder’s, birth. There were cupcakes in Atherton, letter readings in Starbucks, and other events on campus. The event I went to was a portrait unveiling and talk from a direct descendant of Ovid Butler.
The speaker talked about interesting facts about Butler’s life and the university’s beginnings. For example, I learned that when Butler first opened it was a Christian university and that Ovid Butler was a strict abolitionist and strived for diversity and inclusivity in the university from day one. I also learned that the first black female to graduate college in Indiana was at Butler. It was so cool to hear these things about campus that I didn’t even know before as a junior.

Beyoncé won the Super Bowl this year.
Instead of watching the Puppy Bowl this year, I decided to watch the real version. Only because Beyoncé was the halftime performer. I would also like to point out the fact that I correctly chose the winner of the game which means I’m on a two year win streak on choosing the winner of the Super Bowl. Maybe I should try to make money off of my talent in the future.
Now on to the performance… I thought it was great! Beyoncé looked spectacular, the song choices were great, and Destiny’s Child reunited! I was only disappointed in the fact that she did not sing a new song but the performance was still great nonetheless! She is supposed to be attending the Grammys this upcoming Sunday so hopefully she will be making a surprise performance with a brand new song! It’ll make my life complete.

Yesterday I went with my residents to go bowling and let me tell you, I bowled like a champ. And by that I mean I got last place. But don’t worry, I got last place on purpose! I just didn’t want to shame them with my talent. So if anything, I was doing an act of charity. What a saint I am!
We went to the Woodland bowling alley, which was like 10 minutes away from campus
speeding driving. We had so much fun eating, bowling, and taking tons of pictures. I got my first, and only strike, of the night while talking on the phone! So clearly my talent is heightened while I’m distracted.
After I got back to campus, I immediately went back to my room to finish up my homework, which I’m taking a break from now. I need to finish it all before my Super Bowl party tomorrow! Wish me luck!

The Super Bowl is this Sunday and commentators and analysts have been giving their two cents on who they believe will win. While their predictions may be based on sports knowledge and facts, my prediction, however, is based on random things and which team’s colors I like best. That being said, here are my five reasons why I predict the Baltimore Ravens will win the Super Bowl this year:
1. Their colors are purple and black, which are much cooler than San Francisco’s red and gold!
2. Baltimore is on the East Coast and clearly, as established by Jay Z, the East Coast is clearly superior to the West Coast.
3. Baltimore is the only team I knew for certain was in the Super Bowl until I looked up who their opponent was a few minutes ago.
4. Red and gold are my high school’s colors as well…. *Shudders*
5. San Francisco is where the show “That’s So Raven” took place which was like my favorite show and now it doesn’t air anymore so the city reminds me of sadness.

As previously documented, Beyoncé is the reason why I wake up in the mornings. Also, since she is the Super Bowl Halftime performer, I thought it would be appropriate to make her the Music Monday selection for today. I’ve been listening to her music all week to prepare for the festivities on Sunday and let’s just say that she’s the only reason I’m watching the Super Bowl at all this year.
The video I decided to pick is for “Upgrade U,” which is one of my favorite songs/videos by her. Not only is she so beautiful in it, but it’s a catchy song! My favorite parts of the video are at the beginning with the baby aligator and toward the end when she imitates Jay Z. Now all I can do now is wonder what songs she’ll perform at the Super Bowl. HOPEFULLY it’s a new one!

Today is the inauguration of President Obama and since I did all my homework already, I decided to spend today watching it. It was the first inauguration I’ve ever watched since at Obama’s last inauguration I was in school and was taking a history test. I remember specifically because my school played his speech on the intercom and I remember getting annoyed because I couldn’t concentrate on my exam! Needless to say I got an A anyway!
The highlight for me, obviously, was when Beyoncé sang the National Anthem. It was so perfect! If she sang this good in the blistering cold of Washington D.C., I can only imagine how well she’ll perform during the Super Bowl in New Orleans this year! I’m so glad I finally got to experience something so historic on television, especially after voting in my first election last year.

Although Beyoncé is my favorite singer, Kanye West is my favorite artist overall. I just love how creative his lyrics are and I love the creativity of his music videos. He’s also dating Kim Kardashian so that’s a plus in my book as well. My favorite song by Kanye is “Paris,” but my favorite video is “Power.”
The video is only 1 minute and 43 seconds long and is very creative. It is almost like a moving painting that starts out with a close headshot of Kanye and ends with a widened panoramic video of all of the other chaos going on in the “picture.” I love trying to focus on a new part of the painting each time I watch the video to see if I missed something the first time.
