Since I’m in the sports section of the paper, I have decided to embrace my inner athlete and watch/enjoy sports. That being said, I am now an official fan of the Yankees, Dallas Cowboys, and the Lakers. Hopefully now by watching more sports I’ll be able to use it in my writing for the paper since I hardly know anything about them!
I have always been a Yankees and Lakers fan but I’ve never really actively watched their games before but now that’ll change with my newly rejuvenated fandom. I also used to like the Jets in football only because I saw that they were winning at one point, but now I’ve randomly chosen the Cowboys, probably because their hats were on sale and I bought one!
This week for the paper I have to cover men’s and women’s golf, which is exciting since I’ve never covered it/watched it before! But regardless, hopefully the teams win!
Just showing off my new Cowboys hat! No big deal!
So the semester is officially back into gear and the assignments are pouring in! I already have papers and projects assigned for next week! YIKES!
Last night I spent most of my time in the Collegian office working on the paper since the first issue of the semester comes out today. I wrote a game recap on the women’s basketball team. You can read it here. I had a lot of fun writing it and can’t wait to find out what I’ll be writing for next week. I really like the women’s team so hopefully I’ll get assigned their game against Green Bay tomorrow.
Since I was in the Collegian office all night, I missed the President’s State of the Union Address. I looked online to find everyone commenting that it looked like Joe Biden kept falling asleep so I’m really disappointed that I missed it. I’m sure I’ll hear all about it on the news today. But in the meantime, I’ll be finishing up my homework for today! After leaving newspaper last night I was too tired to finish all my assignments so now I’ve been scrambling to get it all done this morning! Ahhhh…. procrastination at its finest.
Here's a picture of me and my friend Amber doing a pose I've dubbed the "Tyra Banks!"
Since I’ve been assigned to cover the women’s basketball games for The Collegian I had to watch them online. The first game against UIC was really painful to watch and they lost pretty handily. But the second game against Loyola was just the opposite!
The Bulldogs started off slow, being down by as much as 17 points. At first I wanted to turn away as I thought it would be a repeat of the UIC game. But, after half-time, it was like there was a whole new team on the floor as the Bulldogs quickly came back. Both teams kept exchanging the lead but the Bulldogs came out on top winning the game 60-57!
I was happy the team won for two reasons. The first one is just because it’s Butler. The second reason is so now I won’t have to write a depressing sports story!
Here are clips from when Butler won against IUPUI last month.
Last night I got my assignments for next week’s Collegian and I’m excited for my stories! I’m covering the two women’s basketball games this week. They play UIC tonight and Loyola on Saturday so I’ll have a busy couple of days. The men’s team coincidentally play on the same days and the same teams so hopefully both teams win both days!
Today is also my last day of classes for the week since I do not have Friday classes so hopefully I’ll be able to get an early start on my assignments. It’ll be weird always having a three day weekend. But I’ll be sure to find something to do! But I’ll also take full advantage of not having to wake up by a certain time for class by waking up at like 1 or 2!
Here’s a cheesy informational video about Hinkle Fieldhouse!
Since Thanksgiving is next week, I get a break from the Collegian this week. The new issue came out today and my story is on the front page! Our new basketball insert also came out today and it looks very nice! I wrote two women‘s basketball stories for it and I think they turned out really well!
Today is Wednesday which can only mean one thing…..I’LL BE HOME IN LESS THAN 48 HOURS!!! Words cannot express how excited I am for break to almost be here. The first thing I’ll do is probably lay in my bed and sleep and NOT do homework! I’m supposed to be going to Olive Garden with my friend Angela from home which should be exciting.
This song has been stuck in my head for the past two days! The music video is weird and colorful…. which is exactly why I love it! It is called “Lucky Day” by the British singer Nicola Roberts.
So far this week, I’ve gotten about 6-8 hours of sleep each night which is a new record for me this semester. I’m not sure how it has happened since I’m as busy as ever but I won’t complain! I even don’t need coffee to keep me awake during the day. Maybe I’ll keep this up!
On The Collegian, we are currently working on a special insert for the first men’s home basketball game. I wrote two women’s basketball stories for the issue and I think it’ll turn out pretty well! The people working on the issue have a lot of cool graphics and even had a photo shoot with the team! I can’t wait to see it! Collegian members will be passing the issue out at the game and there will be a copy inside of each paper in bins around campus!
Here’s a video of the introduction of the basketball team in 2010. Hopefully we’ll make to the championship again this year and win!
For my Sportswriting class I had to go to three Butler sports games and write stories about them. It was definitely really fun! The first game we went to was the men’s basketball game against Northern State. It was definitely a riveting game but ultimately the team lost right at the buzzer!
After this game, there was a joke in our class that we were cursed because at each game our class covered, Butler lost. But, on Saturday, we covered the football game and basketball game and Butler won both! Butler won both games pretty easily so I was excited. It was definitely fun to write about a game that we have won for a change as well!
I also got to go home on Friday to do some laundry and I got the iPhone 4S! I have been having a lot of fun playing around with it and talking to the creepy/interesting virtual assistant, Siri.
Here is the team’s introduction for this year!
As I mentioned in my last blog post, I developed a terrible sore throat over the weekend. Also yesterday I started coughing and getting a runny nose too! It was quite the crisis. But, needless to say, when I woke up this morning all my symptoms were gone! I have my theories but I think it might be due to the fact that I got cold medicine and have been drinking Calm tea from Starbucks with honey non-stop!
In my Converged Journalism course we each have to film media projects with a partner and help them film their interviews. This afternoon, I’ll be helping my partner film for her interview with Coach Brad Stevens. I think it’ll be great and exciting to hear what he has to say! I’ve never met him before so it will definitely be a great experience.
Since we’re talking about basketball, here’s a funny video talking to different players on the team!
So it is like 80 degrees outside which makes me happy because it is finally getting warmer! I am currently sporting my shorts and flip flops and will go outside and enjoy it. I have a project in my British Literature class which I am taking pictures of myself enjoying nature to relate it to the romantic period so it will be a blast.
In other important news, the Rock of Ages musical is coming to Clowes Hall this week and I really want to go. I’m not sure how much tickets are but Constantine from American Idol is the lead actor so I’m totally stoked!
That’s all for today! I gotta go get my book and read it outside for the beautiful day!!!
Random Video of the Day:
This is a video of Butler students celebrating a win over VCU! Definitely gives me a sense of nostalgia!
When I first started this blog I remember being so excited about the Yankees going to the Playoffs and it’s weird seeing that the new baseball season has already started! There’s also only a month left of school (Who’s counting, anyway?!?) which is even weirder! This year has definitely flown past me and I have no idea where it went!
Today I only had one class so I’ve definitely been having a lazy day today. What makes it better is that my first two classes got canceled for tomorrow so I get to sleep in! Besides it being my birthday on Monday, classes being canceled, being able to wear shorts AND hardly having any homework, I’m not sure how this week could get any better!
This evening there is a pep rally for the basketball team so I’ll be sure to go over to Hinkle Fieldhouse to go support our basketball team! They really put in a lot of hard work and hopefully they can do it again next season!!
Creeping on some people (as usual!) going to Robertson Hall on Sunday!
