No, this post isn’t about the Miami Heat. Instead it’s about this cruelly hot summer we have been having. Every day as far as I can remember has been hotter than 90 degrees and I’m not liking it one bit! Thankfully I’ve been staying inside of air conditioned buildings every day. Except for one….
Thursday it stormed for literally twenty minutes and my power went out! No air conditioning for me! And it turns out there were power outages across the county. Needless to say it was horrendous. After sweating half my body weight that night, there was no end in sight. When I woke up the power was still out so I decided to go to the one place I knew would have air conditioning… the mall.
After spending a couple hours there I decided to go home and hope the power was back on. As I was driving home, I noticed two power trucks driving in front of me and I was hoping they were going to my house to restore the power. And believe it or not, they were! It was the most glorious moment of my life. It took only twenty minutes to fix whatever was wrong and I was sitting pretty in my air conditioned home. I now have a whole new appreciation for the Amish.
Following the power trucks to my home! Best moment of my life.
Yesterday lightning struck the Butler power center and knocked out the power on campus. Fortunately I was off campus shopping for most of it but when I got back, I had to sit in the dark. Most of the buildings on campus didn’t have power but eventually they all came on except for my building. Just my luck!
As it was slowly getting darker outside, I had to find numerous ways to entertain myself. Many people in my unit resorted to playing board games in the hallways. First I tried watching movies on my laptop but eventually my battery ran low. Then I searched around on my phone and played games and discovered new apps! The one that was most helpful in the situation was the flashlight app that I had to use to manuver the hallways.
Once it was completely dark outside, I decided to brave the dark and go visit my friend Maisie in Schwitzer and use her resources to charge my phone. After waiting for hours, I decided I was too tired and was going to go to my room whether it was dark or not and go to bed. To my surprise all the lights were on and power was restored! It was the most glorious moment of my life. I was done living like the Amish!
It actually ended up being unexpectedly fun, but I’d rather not go through it again.
This is literally the view in my room last night. It was seriously that dark...
