Welcome Week

So I just got word that I’ll be having freshmen in my unit as well as sophomores and international students which I’m excited about because now I get to participate in all the Welcome Week activities I missed as a freshman (FYI I missed them because I was sick). And since freshmen move in earlier than sophomores, there will be less time for my unit being empty since I have to move in early for RA training.

Although I’m looking forward to Block Party, I’m most excited to see what Play Fair is. Everyone says it’s their favorite part of welcome week but since I missed it last year, I’m curious to see what makes it so fun.

Aurora Victims

I wanted to devote this post to the victims in the movie theatre in Aurora, CO. I usually don’t talk about sad subjects in my blog but I thought it would be appropriate to show my support to the victims in some kind of way. For some reason I did not find out until nighttime on Friday as to what happened but I was shocked nonetheless. I think it really hit close to home since it was a movie I talked about seeing with friends the day before and that it could have been anybody, almost anywhere.

I was watching Anderson Cooper explain it all and he brought up a good point. It’s important for us not to remember the shooter but to instead remember the victims that were affected. After every shooting, nationwide people remember the shooter more than they remember the victims to I think it’s important for us to try to at least offer our support to the victims whether it’s just a Tweet or anything.

Olympics

The Olympics are going to be held in London this year and there has definitely been a lot of promotion because it is everywhere! It has been on TV, magazines, the radio, literally everywhere! It has even invaded my breakfast!

There has been Olympics stuff on my cereal!

But I’m really looking forward to a couple things involving the Olympics. First, I heard Adele is performing at either the opening or closing ceremony so I’m curious to see what kind of spectacular performance she will put on. And second, I’m looking forward to seeing if Michael Phelps will dominate again like he did in 2008.

Needless to say, it was still delicious!

Road Trip To Iowa

Last year my former high school put on a performance of the play Road Trip To Iowa, and let me tell you, it was just as it sounds: boring and unnecessary. I also thought the Iowa Caucus would be the same when I watched it last night but let me tell you, it was the opposite: exciting and thrilling!

So I started watching at 6 pm on CNN and it got underway. All the anchors said it would be a tight race and they could not decide on a winner. As the night went on there were three candidates in the lead but eventually one fell to third place and we were left with Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum. Both candidates kept exchanging the lead which made for an exciting night. There was even a point where ONE vote separated the two.

I fell asleep at midnight thinking that Rick Santorum would win since he was up by 119 votes but I was surprised to wake up to see that Romney won by eight votes! According to the news, it was the closest Republican caucus in history. The only caucus to be closer was in 2008 when Obama beat Clinton by 7 votes in Guam! Who knew!?

I’m kind of mad at myself for going to bed early because I missed this television gold below when a very confused Iowa official talks to the CNN anchors!

The Final Countdown

The New Year is almost here, which means that the New Year’s Resolutions are about to begin. So I thought it would be fun to share mine for the upcoming year!

1. Stop biting my nails- I make this resolution every year and always forget and fail but this year I am determined to stop! I usually do it when I’m antsy and excited but I am for sure going to stop in the new year.

2. STOP procrastinating- I am usually good about getting all of my assignments done in a timely manner but believe me, there are times when my assignments get done the night before. Hopefully I’ll stop that bad habit and get all my stuff done as soon as I get it!

3. Slow down my shopping addiction- Since I’ve discovered the new world of online shopping, my spending has been on the rise! So now I’m determined to start saving more money and only buying the necessities. This is the one resolution I’m looking forward to the most!

4. Watch Seasons 4 and 5 of Mad Men- This isn’t really crucial but I got Season 4 of Mad Men on DVD for Christmas and haven’t gotten the chance to watch it yet so I’m looking forward to it! And the new season of Mad Men starts this year so I can also look forward to that too. Hey, who said resolutions couldn’t be fun too?!
