Great Season

Last night the men’s basketball team suffered a very close loss but definitely fought a long, hard fight and I couldn’t be any prouder! It’s tough to end the season so early but I can’t wait until next season when I’m sure, no matter what, they won’t disappoint.

Starting the day yesterday I planned on not watching the game since I had tons of homework and I usually can’t handle high stress games like the NCAA tournament. But, I couldn’t help but watch after hearing all the cheers and screams coming from people in my hallway, I couldn’t help but watch in bits and pieces in between reading for Spanish.

Even though this season didn’t end the way we would have hoped, at least we have the opportunity to start fresh in a new conference next year to really show the other teams what we’re made of, which is extremely exciting.

RA of the Week

So at this week’s RA staff meeting, yours truly was named RA of the Week. So basically, in my mind, this makes me the King of my residence hall for the rest of the semester. I’ve decided to make Kim Kardashian my Queen and we’ll rule forever. I even wore purple today, the royal color, for the occasion. I also got a little bulldog stuffed animal as a prize but I have to give it to whomever wins next week.

In order to celebrate my new royal title, yesterday I invited my residents in my room to get candy and extra Red Bulls I had. I had a great turnout and I plan on banishing all of those who did not attend from the kingdom. So, in reality, I feel like Beyoncé in this video. Kate Middleton better watch out because I’m coming for her throne!

Music Monday: JT

After a 7-year music break, Justin Timberlake is finally releasing his third studio album tomorrow and I’m pretty excited. I wasn’t always a fan of Justin but when “Sexyback” came out, I was hooked. His first single “Suit and Tie,” although it took time to grow on me, is great! It makes me feel classy when I listen to it and I like to sing and dance along to it in the car. I can’t dance as well as him but I’m getting there!

Justin has been all over SNL, Jimmy Fallon, and other shows to promote the album, which has gotten me really excited. He even performed a new song each day last week on Jimmy Fallon. And after listening to the full album on iTunes yesterday, I can’t wait to buy it! It’s a lot of R&B and Pop sounds, which I love. There are also rumors that he’s making a volume two to this album as well so I can’t wait!

Spring Break Is Over

Much to my dismay, Spring Break 2013 is over. Although I didn’t do too much exciting besides homework and a bit of shopping, I’d much rather lay around my house doing homework than coming back to school and doing homework. But I’m still happy to be back! I actually arrived yesterday just so I could print all the papers I did over break and to get settled in before everyone else and, most importantly, get a good parking spot. I’m very protective over my parking spots so that means more to me than it does to most people.

When I got here yesterday, I finished some of my homework, went to Whole Foods (of course), and to get new pants at H&M. It was just so nice to get out and do something since no one was on campus yet so it was pretty boring just sitting in my room. Thankfully, people are trickling back in today so I can have some kind of human contact!

There are cars in the parking lot! People are here!

Lazy Men

Although I had planned to be productive over Spring Break, so far I haven’t done anything. Instead, I’ve done a lot of eating, watching television, and social networking. In between being a Tumblr addict and being enthralled by the new Pope announcement today, I have been watching old seasons on Mad Men on my computer. I purchased Season Four a couple summers ago and never got a chance to watch it but now, while I’m trying to procrastinate, is the perfect opportunity.

I first caught wind of the show when I went into Banana Republic one day and saw they had a new Mad Men clothing collection. All the clothes were so nice and stylish and I just had to see what it was all about. I watched a couple episodes and I was hooked! It isn’t one of those shows that is dramatic and attention-grabbing but it is so well-made that I cannot help but watch. The new season starts on April 7 so I can’t wait to clear my Sunday nights to watch!

Here’s a clip from the very last scene of last season:

Music Monday: Home Again

In honor of seeing Oz The Great and Powerful on Saturday I decided to dedicate today’s Music Monday to Mariah Carey‘s song for the movie, “Almost Home.” It’s a very understated song, which I like about it, yet it still shows off her vocal ability. I also chose it because I’m home for Spring Break so I thought the title was slightly fitting.

As I stated in my previous blog post, I loved the movie! The music video features clips from the movie between clips of Mariah singing with a very powerful wind machine, I might add. The song isn’t in the movie but is the very last song played in the credits, which is disappointing since it’s a great song!

Oz

On my first day back home for Spring Break, I decided to see a movie with my friend since elementary school, Hayley! She informed me that there was a new Disney movie called Oz The Great and Powerful so we went to see it! The theatre was extremely packed to see the movie so luckily we got there early to get great heckling seats since we both enjoy making snide comments about movies together. Yes, we’re those people….

The movie starred James Franco as Oz. It also starred Mila Kunis as one of the evil witches. It is before Dorothy arrives and tells the backstory as to how Oz got his rule over the Emerald City. The plot and storyline were very creative and the cinematography was spectacular. I really enjoyed the movie. Although I have a vendetta against movies longer than 1 hour and 30 minutes, I still enjoyed this 2 hour movie. Needless to say we got irritated looks for giggling and laughing the whole time but it was a great movie, nonetheless! I highly recommend seeing it.

Snowball Peace

So two nights ago it snowed quite a bit and was extremely cold. This caused someone on Facebook to organize a campus wide snowball fight on the mall. Normally I avoid snow like the plague but this was an opportunity I couldn’t miss. Though I wouldn’t be participating in throwing snow since I recently lost my gloves, I still wanted to see what the hullabaloo was about.

When I went out there, there was about 50 people throwing snow, some running around shirtless, and some just spectating. Since I’m taking Intro to Peace Studies this semester, I thought it was the perfect opportunity to use what I learned to try to promote peace to the commoners throwing snow. And much to my dismay, no one listened. But needless to say, I’ll be expecting my Nobel Peace Prize soon, please and thanks.

Sorry for the blurry picture. It's hard to get a good pic when you're dodging snowballs!

Music Monday: Pancake Cake Cakes

Yesterday, one of my very generous residents made pancakes for the unit! I never had chocolate chip pancakes before nor had I eaten pancakes in years so I was extremely excited to be able to eat some. Needless to say, I had two and they were delicious. And, unfortunately, I ate them extremely quickly because I had to rush to church and I got a stomach ache because of it. :( They were so good that I think I’ll visit IHOP sometime soon to celebrate my newfound love!

Making the pancakes!

This made me decide to make today’s music monday dedicated to Rihanna and her song “Birthday Cake.” No, my birthday isn’t any time soon but it had the work “cake” in the title so I thought it was fitting. This is one of my favorite songs and let’s just say that I sing this song at the top of my lungs when I’m alone in the car.

New Identities

So I get bored easily so one of the things I take my frustrations out on is the Starbucks on campus. Normally at Starbucks when you get a drink they ask you for a name on the cup so they can give you the correct drink on the other side of the store. So since I’ve caught on that you don’t have to provide your real name, I’ve been taking this opportunity to adopt a plethora of new identities!

My favorite go-to identities are Barack Obama and Beyoncé but there are others I use as well. It’s always so funny to hear “Venti water for Barack Obama” and it’s hilarious to see people’s reactions when they hear the name and see me walking up to get my cup. I keep running out of ideas but I can’t wait to use more identities in the upcoming weeks!

My latest identity!
