All week people have been wearing costumes and although I do like being wacky, for some reason I can just never get creative enough to dress up as anything for Halloween. Even as a kid I was a Debbie Downer and never dressed up for Halloween because I just didn’t care enough. Besides, I like investing my energy into real holidays like Christmas and Thanksgiving.
Tonight I plan on giving candy to my residents in my hallway and
probably not play Halloween music on my speakers with my door open. I can say I have gotten into the spirit by having a pumpkin in my room but I’m scared it’s going to rot so I think I might have to get rid of it soon…..
Me posing with Achilles for Halloween!
So I awkwardly go through off and on periods of really getting into Frank Ocean and now is one of those times. I first heard of him two summers ago when his album came out and everyone and their mom loved him. His first single “Thinkin Bout You” was my favorite song for a while until I decided to listen to his older stuff.
Now my favorite song by him is “Swim Good” from his older released stuff. It’s funny I like it because, fun fact, I don’t know how to swim so I listen to it in a weirdly ironic way. As with all of Frank Ocean’s songs I never know what they’re talking about because his lyrics are so abstract but I still appreciate it.
So Halloween hit Butler early this year with everyone celebrating it this weekend. I normally don’t get into the Halloween spirit and never get dressed up but after peer pressure from my pals I decided to wear my Kris Humphries shirt and go as him as a last minute choice.
I decided to go to the dance party on campus and while there I saw Bekah dancing up a storm in a onesie! Only Bekah would wear a onesie and not think it’s a big deal. I also went around my unit randomly taking candy from all my residents. Little do they know I’ve been accumulating all the candy I’ve gotten from them in my room so when Halloween comes around I don’t have to buy any. Very smart thinking on my part, I must say.

I have previously dedicated a Music Monday to Lorde but her album is so good that I needed to dedicate another to her to describe just how awesome her music is. Her album “Pure Heroine” is one of the few albums I can listen to from beginning to finish without skipping a track. Her songs have a minimalist sound with just a minimal beat with her voice, which I really like.
The song I’m posting for today’s Music Monday is her song “Glory And Gore,” which is my favorite song on the album. It’s kind of creepy, which is why I like it and I listen to it on repeat all the time and sing it to the top of my lungs in the car when I’m alone
or shamelessly in front of people too.
So over fall break I decided to visit my friend Hayley who goes to Loyola in Chicago. We hung around her apartment for a bit and then went shopping at H&M (of course) downtown. It’s funny because I already have an order on its way from H&M already but I just can’t be stopped.
Afterwards we went to a Loyola basketball pep rally for their new season. It was cute I guess but it just didn’t compare to the celebrations we throw at Butler! It was interesting to see how other schools celebrate and to see their gymnasium. Plus I got a free T-Shirt and got to take a picture with their mascot so it ended up being fun!
Being there did make me excited for the Butler basketball season! I can’t wait to be front row in the Dawg Pound to support our Dawgs this year, especially since it’s my last year!
Me and the Loyola mascot.
For some random reason I’ve really gotten into Taylor Swift lately, which is awkward since I like Kanye West a lot too, so I decided to dedicate today’s Music Monday to her. I can’t really relate to her lyrics but I still love her songs! On her Red album, I’d have to say my favorite songs are “Red,” “I Knew You Were Trouble,” and “Say Say Say.”
My favorite album by Taylor is “Fearless” and my favorite song of all time from her is “Love Story.” The “Love Story” video forever remains her best and it was the first song I heard by Taylor and made me discover her. And after hearing her on the radio yesterday, I decided to become a fully-fledged fan. Yes, I’m that quick to pick things up.

This weekend I got to celebrate my last official Homecoming as a student at Butler. It was definitely bittersweet but I had so much fun! There were so many activities on campus the past few days, including bouncy rides on the mall, food trucks, random giveaways, and other activities.
This morning they held the Bulldog Beauty contest where people can enter their bulldogs to get judged in a contest. Afterwards there was the football tailgate and the game itself. Thankfully we won the game so it ended up being great all around!
Also, I was prominently featured in one of the Butler sponsored videos about staying safe on Homecoming so once again I’d like to acknowledge how I’m keeping campus safe one day at a time. No big deal. You can see me at 1:15.
Yesterday for my class on The Politics of Harry Potter and the Hunger Games, we had a guest speaker, Bethany Barratt, who wrote one of the books we read for class, come talk to us about her thoughts on human rights and the series and how it relates to politics. We had a great conversation with her in class about how the Harry Potter series can have common daily political analogies and themes that were relevant to human rights, political mobilization, and youth in politics.
After our class discussion we all went over to Atherton for dinner where we got to discuss more closely some of the themes and get to know her on a more personal level. We also got to eat some delicious Asian food! Good job, Aramark! Finally, we ended our day with listening to Barratt speak about human rights more generally and how the language used to describe it has shifted post 9/11.

My obsession with the new Miley Cyrus has grown so much and I finally get to express it by purchasing her new album Bangerz tomorrow. It was just yesterday when she was a young innocent teen on Disney with her secret life as Hannah Montana and now she has grown into a wild twerking machine.
I streamed Bangerz on iTunes last week and I love almost all of the songs. My favorite is “Drive” which is rumored to be about her ex fiancé Liam Hemsworth. I also love the classics “We Can’t Stop” and “Wrecking Ball” as well. A lot of the songs on the album are mid tempos so they’re quite hard to dance to but I still make it work.
I’ll be staying up until midnight to buy the album tonight and probably won’t go to bed until 2 when I finally will get through the album and fall asleep. I hope this new Miley continues forever because my obsession is real.
My friend Elissa’s boyfriend came into town this weekend to
twerk visit her from Wisconsin and I got to meet him and he was spectacularly nice. He even is up to date on pop culture so he’s a plus in my book. He drove us and our friend Lisa to dinner to Three Wise Men in Broad Ripple and, though we had a wait a while, the food was delicious!
When I got back from dinner I had planned on watching Miley Cyrus host on SNL but I was tired so I decided to take a nap before it came on. Unfortunately I overslept and now I’m up at 3 AM writing a blog! Hopefully it’s on Hulu in the morning so I can watch it. I’ve been reading reviews saying she was great so I can’t wait to see it!
The gang at Three Wise Men!
