Music Monday: Beyonce Part 2

As previously documented, Beyoncé is the reason why I wake up in the mornings. Also, since she is the Super Bowl Halftime performer, I thought it would be appropriate to make her the Music Monday selection for today. I’ve been listening to her music all week to prepare for the festivities on Sunday and let’s just say that she’s the only reason I’m watching the Super Bowl at all this year.

The video I decided to pick is for “Upgrade U,” which is one of my favorite songs/videos by her. Not only is she so beautiful in it, but it’s a catchy song! My favorite parts of the video are at the beginning with the baby aligator and toward the end when she imitates Jay Z. Now all I can do now is wonder what songs she’ll perform at the Super Bowl. HOPEFULLY it’s a new one!

Ice Skating with the Stars

Yesterday I got invited to go ice skating downtown and I ended up having a lot of fun!! I have never been ice skating before and I don’t even know how to rollerblade so I was extremely worried about dying but I can assure you I did not die. After franticly searching ice skating videos online to give myself an understanding of what to do, I still felt unprepared for what I saw as my impending doom.

As I got on the ice, I tried channeling my inner Michelle Kwan and being graceful but needless to say I was so wobbly and too focused on not falling. But, the good news is I only fell once and I kind of cheated by holding onto the hand of my friend Karleen the whole time. I plan on going back soon to build on my skills and pretty soon I’ll look like a swan on the floor!

New World

So as part of my new healthy eating obsession with Whole Foods, I have decided that I can only eat things from Whole Foods. So far it hasn’t been going so well since all the food in the dining halls have been awkwardly good but I’m still trudging through! There’s always tomorrow!

Since I’m also on this healthy kick, I’ve been awkwardly obsessed with Dr. Oz and have been checking his website daily. I’m sure my healthy phase will last a couple more days until I give up completely and eat every Pop Tart in the world but for now, I’ll just keep living in my delusion!

Music Monday: Inauguration

Today is the inauguration of President Obama and since I did all my homework already, I decided to spend today watching it. It was the first inauguration I’ve ever watched since at Obama’s last inauguration I was in school and was taking a history test. I remember specifically because my school played his speech on the intercom and I remember getting annoyed because I couldn’t concentrate on my exam! Needless to say I got an A anyway! :)

The highlight for me, obviously, was when Beyoncé sang the National Anthem. It was so perfect! If she sang this good in the blistering cold of Washington D.C., I can only imagine how well she’ll perform during the Super Bowl in New Orleans this year! I’m so glad I finally got to experience something so historic on television, especially after voting in my first election last year.

Whole Foods Love

I’ve recently become obsessed with Whole Foods. I’ve gone there before but on Friday I decided to stock my room with groceries from there and have made a pact that I’ll only eat healthy foods forever! I’m assuming this is just a phase that’ll last two days but in the mean time, I’ll be under my own delusion!

After Spanish class on Friday I went to Whole Foods and picked up some fresh fruit, healthy drinks, cookies, chips, cookies, and popcorn. Needless to say I’ll be going back again this upcoming weekend to get more! I’m basically aiming to be the next Dr. Oz. I’ve eaten most of the food I purchased already (whoops!) so I’ll make sure I get enough that’ll last me a while when I go next time!

Golden Globes

The Golden Globes were held on Sunday this year and, while I was getting ready for my first day of classes, I decided to watch them! The show was hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler which made me more inclined to watch this year because I find them hilarious. Their opening monologue was extremely funny and I’m glad they didn’t just rip the attendees like Ricky Gervais did in the past.

My favorite part was when Kristen Wiig and Will Ferrell did their little bit while presenting the nominees for their category. I’m surprised I liked it because although I love Kristen Wiig, I usually don’t find Will Ferrell funny but I was impressed. Evidently their bit was done on the spot so bravo for them thinking of it right then and it still being funny!

Music Monday: Up and About

Today is the first day of classes which is exciting! I only have one class today so I don’t feel stressed or anything and that’s actually good since it’ll get me adjusted to having to go back to classes already! I have Peace Studies today and I’m super excited for it since I’ve never taken a Peace Studies course before so I’m curious as to what to expect. I have a friend that took the course before and loved it so I’m hoping to have a similar experience!

I also start my internship at the state Democratic Party today as well. I’m also excited to see what I’ll be doing, meting my co-workers, and getting real world experience. It’s also a busy day for me as well because I am on duty in my building today and I have a unit meeting for my residents tonight! So I’ll definitely have a lot of running around to be doing!

Obstacle Course

On one of the last days of RA training, Reslife set up an obstacle course in the HRC for us. We were divided into teams and our team decided to call ourselves Team Hope. FOr about an hour we did various activities such as skipping around the track, cycling, running up and down stairs, and running in the gym. All the events took about an hour.

After the obstacle course we all did a group yoga session in the HRC basement. It was a great way to relax and unwind after all the running of before. It was especially pleasing since it was the first time all year I had done physical activity of any kind besides dancing around my room and it was nice to finally be able to sit down and reflect on how out of shape I am. Our team ended up getting third place but, in our defense, one of the other teams had a Physical education major!

Gleaners Food Bank

Yesterday, during RA training, us RAs volunteered at Gleaners Food Bank. It was so nice for all of us to come together and work toward a good cause. When we first arrived we watched a video about the work we would be doing and the impact we will be making in the community. After that we broke off into groups to work on a different project. Some people went to the meat packing section in the freezer and some went to sort the food. My group was assigned to placing the food on the counter to be sorted.

In total we all helped produce a total of 8,600 pounds of food for needy families and children. It felt good that I helped contribute to that total and hopefully we’ll be able to return in the future. All this week during training we have been emphasizing on charity and giving back to the community, which I think is a very good trait to have as a person and being a contributing member of society.

Tired

Since I’ve been back for RA training, I’ve been working on my bulletin boards. I have one left to complete and I cannot think of any ideas for it! I keep brainstorming and brainstorming and have come up with nothing! Of course I would get to my last board and draw a blank!

Today for training we had to wake up by 8 and, knowing me, I had the bright idea to stay up all night until 2 AM to work on my bulletin boards. Needless to say I’m exhausted now and I had a nasty headache all day. :( But now that I’m almost done, I will be catching up on some much needed sleep! :)
