Last night Jimmy Fallon held a show on campus at Clowes Hall and it seems like everyone went but me! I had class when tickets were being sold so I couldn’t buy tickets so I resorted to trying to win the random Twitter contests to win tickets. Of course I didn’t win and spent the night doing homework. Hey, at least I got the majority of my assignments for this week done!
During the time of Jimmy’s performance, there was not a single person in the hallway or lounge so I decided to Skype my friend Katie from high school to keep me company until everyone got back from the show. Of course it is impossible to keep up a 2 hour long Skype conversation so I ended up working out (shocking, I know) until the big season finale of Kourtney and Kim Take New York. It was the big episode where she announces she wants a divorce and it was the best episode EVAR! There was so much drama, crying, and excitement!
Needless to say I ended up having a fun night trying to find random things to do to fill my time and it was nice to finally have a relaxed Sunday evening without stressing about doing all my assignments at the last minute!
This is my friend Taylor and I after our Collegian meeting last week. I was evidently excited for some reason!
I have developed a weird obsession with short films recently, which inspired a big decision in my life. My favorite short film so far is called “Some Boys Don’t Leave,” with the “boy” being portrayed by Jesse Eisenberg, who played Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg in the movie “The Social Network.” I’ve never seen the Social Network but I looked up clips online and I feel like I would enjoy it!
After looking up that he was in The Social Network, I was inspired to make a Facebook and join the rest of humanity online. I’m already obsessed with it and I’m pretty sure I’ll keep it this time instead of deleting it like I always do! Since I’m in this new social networking phase, I also created a new Twitter account. I currently have 74 followers which BASICALLY means I’m the next Kim Kardashian , who has almost 13 million followers but that’s just a minor detail!
I’m thinking of making a Tumblr account as well. Pretty soon I’ll be on EVERY social networking site! Who knows, maybe I’ll go back to my old Myspace! JUST KIDDING!
I needed a chair to sit in the press area at the women's basketball game and of course the one I got broke in half!
So the semester is officially back into gear and the assignments are pouring in! I already have papers and projects assigned for next week! YIKES!
Last night I spent most of my time in the Collegian office working on the paper since the first issue of the semester comes out today. I wrote a game recap on the women’s basketball team. You can read it here. I had a lot of fun writing it and can’t wait to find out what I’ll be writing for next week. I really like the women’s team so hopefully I’ll get assigned their game against Green Bay tomorrow.
Since I was in the Collegian office all night, I missed the President’s State of the Union Address. I looked online to find everyone commenting that it looked like Joe Biden kept falling asleep so I’m really disappointed that I missed it. I’m sure I’ll hear all about it on the news today. But in the meantime, I’ll be finishing up my homework for today! After leaving newspaper last night I was too tired to finish all my assignments so now I’ve been scrambling to get it all done this morning! Ahhhh…. procrastination at its finest.
Here's a picture of me and my friend Amber doing a pose I've dubbed the "Tyra Banks!"
Since I’ve been assigned to cover the women’s basketball games for The Collegian I had to watch them online. The first game against UIC was really painful to watch and they lost pretty handily. But the second game against Loyola was just the opposite!
The Bulldogs started off slow, being down by as much as 17 points. At first I wanted to turn away as I thought it would be a repeat of the UIC game. But, after half-time, it was like there was a whole new team on the floor as the Bulldogs quickly came back. Both teams kept exchanging the lead but the Bulldogs came out on top winning the game 60-57!
I was happy the team won for two reasons. The first one is just because it’s Butler. The second reason is so now I won’t have to write a depressing sports story!
Here are clips from when Butler won against IUPUI last month.
Last night I got my assignments for next week’s Collegian and I’m excited for my stories! I’m covering the two women’s basketball games this week. They play UIC tonight and Loyola on Saturday so I’ll have a busy couple of days. The men’s team coincidentally play on the same days and the same teams so hopefully both teams win both days!
Today is also my last day of classes for the week since I do not have Friday classes so hopefully I’ll be able to get an early start on my assignments. It’ll be weird always having a three day weekend. But I’ll be sure to find something to do! But I’ll also take full advantage of not having to wake up by a certain time for class by waking up at like 1 or 2!
Here’s a cheesy informational video about Hinkle Fieldhouse!
My first day of classes were yesterday and I’m really excited about the ones I have! I started my day off with Spanish and we watch a movie. Then I went to Constitutional Law and we just talked about the upcoming semester. And finally I ended my day with my Editorial Writing class. What was fun about Editorial Writing was that of the 10 people enrolled in the course, about 7 of them work on The Collegian. They all sound really fun and I cannot wait until later today when I have the rest of my classes!
Yesterday I spent a lot of my time looking up all the celebrities that are coming to Indy for the Super Bowl! But, none of them top Madonna, who’s performing at Halftime! Her performance will probably be the only reason I’ll watch the Superbowl this year! She’s supposed to performing her new song with M.I.A. and Nicki Minaj so I cannot wait to hear it.
Here’s the commercial for her performance
I can’t believe break is officially over and classes start tomorrow! It’s so weird being back on campus after such a long time off! I already have assignments so I guess I’ll get back into the swing of things quick! Before the semester starts, I decided to make a list of things I’m looking forward to this semester!
1. No Friday Classes- Somehow I got lucky and was able to schedule myself where I don’t have classes on Fridays! Which means I get a three day weekend EVERY week! Usually the days that are freer for me somehow end up being my busiest because of newspaper and such but I am determined to not let that happen this semester!
2. Newspaper- This semester I’m on the Sports section on the Collegian. This means I’ll now have a good reason to go to basketball games instead of doing homework or other club activities! I’m also excited to meet all the new staff members tonight at our first meeting!
3. Classes- Though I am not looking forward to all the homework and assignments, I am looking forward to seeing all my new professors and classmates. Hopefully it’ll be a fun semester and not too hard!
4. Atherton Union- The administration renovated the setup of Atherton Union and I’m curious to see how it looks! Maybe now my lunch and dinner will be a little more exiting!
The thing I missed the most during break: My comfy bed!!!
Tonight my friend Hayley and I decided to see the movie The Devil Inside. I had high expectations going into the movie since it was made by the same people who made Paranormal Activity. But after seeing it, I want my money back.
One thing I did like about it was that it was really short and got to the point fast. But, it wasn’t scary, had terrible actors, and was very predictable. Hayley and I ended up making snarky comments the whole time, much to the chagrin of everyone around us.
The movie starts with a woman trying to figure out if her mom is possessed by demons and makes a documentary of it. She randomly finds some priests that magically decide to help her. But of course, they all one by one get possessed themselves and SPOILER ALERT they all die in a car crash. It was a horrible ending and the audience was left with a black screen with the text “The case is still unresolved.” Oh geez, thanks!
The only part that intrigued me was that all of the demon possessed people kept telling one priest that he’d never be forgiven for what he did to his uncle. The viewer never finds out what happened with his uncle, which I assume is a way for the filmmakers to make a sequel! Oh goodie….. But I’ll admit, I would still see the sequel just to see what happened with the guy’s uncle.
I’d give it -3 stars out of 5. Yep, negative three…
I was initially excited that winter break was ending and that it hadn’t snowed a lot. But of course, when I woke up this morning, it was snowing very hard. It never stopped and now there are about a couple inches on the ground.
Since it snowed so much, I was forced to take the job of shoveling it. It was the closest I came to working out ALL break! It also took me a long time too! Let’s just say I almost finished the whole Amy Winehouse album while doing so. And let me tell ya, it’s a longgggg album!
But all the shoveling was worth it because it means I can now relax for the new episode of Jersey Shore tonight! The preview for the episode looked really boring, with the biggest “drama” being that Pauly couldn’t find his gold chain. THE HORROR! On the bright side, since my expectations are so low maybe it’ll end up being enjoyable! All I need is for Snooki to do something crazy!
Here I am expressing my disapproval of the snow after shoveling!
