So as I mentioned yesterday, I have to interview 24 people for my Collegian story this week. And I can happily say I have done 20 of them! Looking back I think the hardest part was the intimidation of having to do 24 but it was not as hard as it seemed at first. I also got to meet some very interesting Butler faculty members in the process as well, so it was a win-win situation!
For my sportswriting class we get to do a story on the women’s soccer game on Wednesday against Cleveland State. I’m really excited because I have yet to go to a women’s soccer game at Butler. After the game we will get the chance to interview the coach and players, which is also exciting.
Last week there was a flash mob to get Jimmy Fallon to come to Butler! I missed it because I had a club meeting to attend. But, here is a video with the dance moves from the flash mob!
I write for Butler’s newspaper The Butler Collegian and this week I think I’ve gotten my toughest assignment yet! I have to interview 24 people by tomorrow! I’ve already gotten most of them done so hopefully I can get the rest by my deadline! I think the story will go well and I think this definitely teaches me time management skills!
I also have a lot of homework in my other classes so this week is really stressful. But, one thing I am looking forward to is fall break next week. I plan to go to Chicago with some of my friends from high school. Hopefully we will go shopping downtown because I need lots of new fall clothes!
Here’s my editor on The Collegian riding a segway for her story last year!
In my Media Literacy class we are learning all about product placement and branding in the media. For homework, we had to watch a video about the two subjects and write a reflection on it. One of the examples given in the video was Britney Spears and how she was branded with Pepsi. This reminded me of my grade school days.
In about second grade, my class had a fierce rivalry between the people who were Team Britney Spears and Team Christina Aguilera. I of course was on Team Britney. When the Pepsi commercials came out with Britney, I remember half the class only drinking Pepsi and some of the others drinking Coca-Cola. We kept this rivalry up for years until both sides lost interest and found new artists.
But, the assignment reminded me of how good Pepsi was at branding! Even today I have a preference for Pepsi and think of the songs in the commercials from when I was younger! I thought it was funny that I had an assignment that let me reminiscence on my childhood! What makes it even better is that Pepsi also sponsors The X Factor, my new favorite show!
This is one of the Pepsi commercials I remember from being younger!
