Cherishing the Warmth!

Yesterday it was so warm I was tempted to go outside without a jacket and I enjoyed it. I even went on a walk! I’ve decided to cherish the warmth when it’s warm outside because as soon as I walked outside today it was terribly cold. I just hope it will be hot outside by the time spring break rolls around, which isn’t too far away!

Today there is the election for Student Government Association President and I plan on going to vote! This is my way of making my voice count since I’m not quite old enough to vote in a real election yet. SGA is holding a “Rock The Vote” event on campus where students can vote and there will be food and activities. I can’t wait!

In more important news, I was woken up to knocks on my door by my RA at 3 in the morning telling me to go to the basement because there was a Tornado watch. I am thankful for two things. 1. That campus was concerned for our safety & 2. I went to bed early because I couldn’t fall back asleep!

That’s all for today! Feel free to leave a comment! You can see my Twitter here.

Free Starbucks? Of course!

Last week I went into Starbucks like any other day to order my Tall Chai Tea Latte like I usually do but there was a booth called “Coffee Chat” open that said if you filled out a card for a suggestion about campus then you’d receive a free tall drink from Starbucks. This definitely made my day!

Something that made my day today is the fact that the Oscars are coming on today! I’m excited to see Anne Hathaway and James Franco host. I think they’ll be an interesting pair. Hopefully I finish my homework in time to watch it! I’m just interested in seeing which film wins Best Picture and who wins Best Actor and Actress. It’ll be a fun night for sure!

Freshmen Skits

On Friday night, everyone on campus crowded into Hinkle Fieldhouse to see the Freshmen Skits! For those not familiar with it, it is where all the fraternities and sororities put on skits for the schools to a theme where judges decide who wins and best went along with the theme. This year’s theme was “Blue Goes to Hollywood!” The event was three hours long but was TOTALLY worth it!

One of the highlights of the night was when the freshmen from TKE threw out pieces of fried chicken to the audience! I really hope whoever caught them didn’t eat it (Who knows how long they had it!)! It was definitely one of the more humorous performances.

After much deliberation the two winning houses ended up being Phi Psi (for guys) and Alpha Phi (for girls)! I think they were both well-deserving of the win and I can’t wait to attend next year!

Busy Busy Day!

So today after my last class I have to run right over to the library to work on my presentation for Spanish class. We have to perform two skits for the class. Then I have to run over to Starbucks to work on my art proposal project for my Aesthetics and Design course. This means that today and tomorrow are going to be my busiest days ever!

Luckily for me, last week I wasn’t too busy and I was able to attend a poetry reading in Starbucks. I was curious to see how creative the poetry from other students on campus would be and I was NOT disappointed. Students either read their favorite poem or a poem they wrote themselves. I had to leave early because Modern Family was coming on but I will definitely attend if there’s another reading.

Chicago Adventure

So REACH, Butler’s diversity organization, sponsored a free trip to Chicago to the first 25 students to sign up and luckily I was one of them! The trip was to see a play called “Mary” at the Goodman Theatre. We left at campus at 10 am and got back at 10 pm. It was definitely a full day!

When we got to Chicago, we had an hour and a half to explore on our own before the play started so a group of us all went to get lunch. I had Chinese food which was delicious to say the least!

After this, we all went to see the play which I also loved. It did a great job portraying real-life gender and racial issues facing Americans. It had its serious moments and it also had its funny moments. I would not mind seeing it again!

After the play, we ended the day by going to Giordano’s Pizzeria which was also paid for. I’m from the Chicago area so I’ve had it before but it tastes better with each bite! I even had four slices left over to bring home.

When we got back to campus, I went to my dorm room and decided to unwind by laying down and browsing the Internet. In doing this, I decided to make a Tumblr! I recently deleted my Facebook because I got bored with it so this is a really nice substitute with my time! Along with Twitter, I feel like I’ve now covered all the important social networking sites.

Spanish Rap

Although my Spanish group thought we were being creative in reciting our vocabulary words to the tune of a rap by Nicki Minaj, turns out the other two groups did the same thing! They didn’t use Nicki Minaj but they still rapped. It was fun though! My group was CLEARLY the best. Not only did we have great costumes, our theme was aliens vs. nerds, but we also memorized it. I think our professor was impressed.

In my British Literature class, we have to write a sonnet and I’m not used to writing poetry so it will definitely be a challenge.Who knows, maybe I’ll be a natural! This is the first class I’ve actually liked British Literature in. We cover more poetry than the typical Shakespeare as in high school english which is a definite plus.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Today is Valentine’s Day and I was pleasantly surprised that as soon as I walked into Jordan Hall, there was a girl handing out Valentine’s Day cards and candy. It definitely made my morning. I really needed the sugar because I was so tired. I didn’t even get to stop by Starbucks before class like I usually do!

In my Civil War FYS class we are now reading “For Cause and Comrades” by James M. McPherson. I haven’t started reading it yet but I will tonight and give my opinion. It’s shorter than the last book we read so I kind of like it already.

I did not get to watch the Grammys yesterday unfortunately. I did get to catch Lady Gaga’s performance, which I actually thought was kind of boring. I’m an ardent fan and even I was left a little disappointed with her new song “Born This Way.”

That’s all for today! Feel free to leave a comment and thanks for visiting!

A Very Blue Day

So on Friday morning I started my day like most and went to Starbucks on campus. While I was waiting in line, our own Butler celebrity, Blue the bulldog, stopped by to say hello! He was of course hounded by the paparazzi, me included, and was so nice. He definitely makes me want a bulldog.

I even tweeted about the encounter and he tweeted me back! You can follow Blue on twitter here, and you can follow me on Twitter here.

Friday was also good because I got most of my homework done. I planned on going to the basketball game Saturday night against Detroit but I totally forgot! I’m going to make sure I go to the next guys home game that is on a weekend. The good news is that we won. Another team bites the dust!

First College Field Trip

I can now officially say that I’ve gone on a field trip in college. For my Aesthetics and Design class, we went to the Indianapolis Museum of Art, or IMA. It’s like a minute away from campus and is free so I’ll definitely be stopping by more often!

We got to go to the different levels and see various pieces of artwork from different continents and time periods. My favorite piece is a little more contemporary and it involves paint and pottery (I’ll post the picture below). There was also a video next to some of the pieces showing them as they were made.

My class didn’t have enough time to see the whole museum but we are planning to go back in March to see the outside exhibits!

Today ended on a good note because I got to Skype my friend Jill who goes to IU. I found out she has a blog too! You can see it here.

Super Bowl in Review

Needless to say, I’m happy the Packers won. It was a great game, especially when the Steelers came back to tighten it up. And despite all the criticism, I really enjoyed the Black Eyed Peas‘ halftime performance. However, I wish they sang more songs from their latest album but it was great to hear their hits.

Also, I usually always find things wrong with Christina Aguilera but I can really understand why she messed up the words to the National Anthem. It’s hard getting up on stage and singing in front of 100 million people. Kudos for her for getting the courage to do it.

With regards to commercials, my favorite one has to be the Volkswagen. one with the kid dressed as Darth Vader. You can see it here.
