Standard Full-Time Undergraduate Student Budget - 2013-2014 academic year

The standard full-time undergraduate student budget used to determine financial aid eligibility is outlined below. For complete information about undergraduate, graduate and part-time tuition rates please see the complete fee schedule available from the Office of Student Accounts at www.butler.edu/student-accounts.

Direct Costs

Direct costs are the charges set and billed by Butler University for tuition, room, meals (board) and fees.

Tuition $33,490
Room and Board $11,240
Fees $878
Total Direct Costs $45,608

Indirect Costs

Indirect Costs are the average living expenses students may incur while attending Butler; items such as books, transportation and miscellaneous expenses.  Butler University will not bill for transportation and miscellaneous expenses, however, students may choose to have the bookstore charges billed by the university.  To help you plan for these additional expenses, we provide you with an estimate.

Books $1,000
Transportation $850
Miscellaneous expenses $1,550
Total Indirect Costs $3,400

Total Cost of Education

$49,008

Explanation of Costs

Estimated room and board is based on the average double room in Ross, Schwitzer and RESCO, and the full meal plan.

Transportation costs are based on the average of five round trips per academic year from home to campus.  With students living on both coasts, this cost can be skewed for students who may live within driving distance.

The amount listed for miscellaneous expenses are an average of what our students tell us they are spending during the academic year.  This would cover pocket money for incidental expenses and would vary based on the individual's spending.
