Accounting - focuses on developing analytical,
communication and information systems skills.
Economics - the study of how societies allocate
their limited resources among competing uses. Provides a foundation
for the study of specialized business disciplines, such as
accounting and marketing, and aids in choosing good government
policies.
Exploratory Studies: Business - program for
undecided students interested in investigating all areas of
business before choosing a specialty.
Finance - the art and the science of managing
money.
International Management - prepares students to
function in the increasing global marketplace by understanding
other cultures and responding to the issues that impact the
domestic and world economy.
Management Information Systems - focuses on how
managers use information and technology to help organizations
achieve goals.
Marketing - the business of promoting sales of
a product or service through means such as promotion, pricing,
packaging, channels of distribution and public relations.

Elementary Education (K-6) - In addition to a
comprehensive liberal arts background, the early and middle
childhood education program prepares students for teaching and
instructional leadership in elementary schools. By completing the
program requirements, early and middle childhood education majors
also meet state licensing course requirements for licensure in
early childhood (beginning with kindergarten) and middle childhood
settings. Special content areas include Mild Interventions and
Reading Teacher.
Middle Childhood - Early Adolescent - Our MC/EA
license supports students who are interested in working with
students in the intermediate grades (4th and 5th) and the middle
school grades (6-8 and 9th if the middle school has a 9th grade).
Some future teachers do not see themselves as strictly elementary,
strictly middle school or high school- oriented, but instead are
really interested in and respond to children in those middle years
starting at the end of elementary school through middle school.
Middle/Secondary Education (5-12 or 9-12) -
enables students to combine the strength of in-depth preparation in
an academic content area with the professional teacher education
skills necessary for success in the classroom. Extensive clinical
experiences are provided prior to student teaching in a variety of
school settings. Content areas include:

Physical Education and Health - The Physical
Education program prepares students for Indiana teaching licensure
in Physical Education (K-12), Health Education (6-12), and as
fitness, health promotion, and physical activity specialists in
school and non-school settings. Capstone experiences include
Student Teaching and/or Advanced Internships. All students are
prepared for American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Certified
Personal Trainer (cPT), Health/Fitness Instructor (ACSM-HFT),
National Strength and Conditional Association (NSCA) Certified
Personal Trainer (NSCA-CPT) and/or Certified Strength and
Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) exams. Effective teaching and
training principles are applied to students' interests in coaching
various sports on all levels. Students are prepared to pursue
advanced degrees based on individual interests in related
disciplines e.g., Physical Education, Health Promotion, Nutrition,
Exercise Science, Physical Therapy, Athletic Training, Kinesiology,
or School Counseling.
Music Education (K-12) - prepares students to
teach music to all grade levels.
Exploratory Studies: Education - program for
undecided students interested in investigating all areas of
education before choosing a specialty.

EPPSP - The Experiential Program for Preparing
School Principals is a two year cohort for students interested in
educational leadership. Graduates of EPPSP receive a master's
degree.
School Counseling - The College of Education
offers a Master of Science degree in School Counseling. This is a
48 credit hour, nationally accredited degree program centered
around the curriculum and clinical practice guidelines of the
Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational
Programs (CACREP). The program is offered in a part-time, evening
format with 24 students entering as a cohort each fall. Students
may elect the three year, regular-track option for completion or
the two year fast-track option.
METL - The Master of Science in Education for
Effective Teaching and Leadership encourages educators to think
deeply, creatively, and critically about the discipline of
education and to consider the importance of their work as teachers
in a diverse and pluralistic society as well as to develop the
personal gifts each brings to teaching. The program is based on the
College of Education's four core values: the appreciation of
diversity and similarity; the excitement of teaching, learning, and
mentoring; the challenge of integrated theory, practice, and
collaboration; and the strength of integrity and responsibility.All

Arts Administration - focuses on a combination
of skills and education in a specific arts discipline (general
arts, dance, music or theatre) and a strong concentration of study
in business, public relations and advertising. The program also
includes instruction in the specifics of arts management, including
fundraising, audience development, organizational structure and
personnel management. Four different Arts Administration degrees
are available depending on students' area of interest.
Dance - a national dance program, with central
focus on classical ballet that offers the serious dance student
professional-level training with a broad approach to liberal arts
education. The program offers versatility in other techniques such
as Modern and Jazz Techniques. Butler Ballet and Butler Chamber
Dance are the performance components of the programs, offering
students extensive pre-professional opportunities. Butler Ballet
performs full-length classical story ballets and diverse programs
with original contemporary works. Butler Chamber Dance is an
ensemble offering students performance opportunities in creative
works, directed by dance faculty.
Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in
Dance-Performance: conservatory quality training while
maintaining a focus on liberal arts education.
Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Dance - Pedagogy:
study in the sciences, College of Education and dance teaching
techniques.
Theatre - the mission of the department is
dedicated to the exploration of the ever-evolving practices of
international theatre through a structured exploration of the
histories, theories, techniques and processes of performance.
The program is a creative environment in which students develop
practical and critical skills in the creation of exciting work,
through total commitment to the collaborative process of making
theatre. Accredited by the National Association of Schools of
Theatre (NAST), Butler Theatre has an international focus, enabling
students to study abroad and train with international artist
through the annual Butler International Theatre Exchange projects.
The acting program is taught by specialists in Linklater Voice,
Michael Chekhov and physical theatre techniques. Through our
professional ties to the Indiana Repertory Theatre students have
regular interaction with professional theatre artists through
internships, study seminars and production attendance.

Media Arts - study and production of visual and
audible art with majors in:
- Recording Industry Studies - students learn
about audio recording, particularly as it applies to music.
Emphasizes the craft and artistry of audio production.
- Multimedia - explores the production of CD,
DVD, Web sites and interactive media from concept to
completion.
- Electronic Media - emphasis in video/audio
production, electronic journalism or media studies. Program suits
interests in news, entertainment television, corporate video
production or sports.

Actuarial Science - use of mathematics,
statistics and financial theory to estimate risk, primarily in the
insurance and financial security industries.
Anthropology - understanding of similarities
and differences in human cultures, past and present, on a global
scale.
Biology - the study of living things; both
plant and animal.
Chemistry - study of the composition,
properties and changes of substances.
Classical Studies -- the study of the cultures,
language and literature of the Greeks and Romans.
Communication Disorders - the scientific study
of speech and hearing science, speech and language development and
communicative disorders.
Communication Studies - study of the process
and effects of oral communication. Two concentrations offered:
- Organizational Communication - explores the
functions and nature of communication within organizations.
- Communication, Technology and Culture -
explores how communication and communication technologies such as
film, TV and internet influence and shape culture
Computer Science - the study of computer-based
systems.
Engineering Dual Degree Program (EDDP) -
students earn degrees from both Butler University and Purdue
University. Students earn a Bachelor of Science degree from Butler
with a major in: Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Computer
Science, Economics or Science, Technology & Society.
Additionally, students receive degrees from the Purdue School of
Engineering (Indianapolis campus) in one of the following:
- Biomedical Engineering

English - study of the fundamental importance
of language and literature in the development of identity,
community and culture. A degree in English offers two tracks:
Exploratory Studies - major for undecided
students interested in actively investigating all their
options.
Exploratory Studies: Natural Science -
undecided students interested in investigating majors within the
sciences
French - study of French language and
cultures
French and Business Studies - joins a French
language major with a solid core of business courses.
German - study of German language and
cultures
German and Business Studies - joins a German
language major with a solid core of business courses.
History - explores the development of American,
European and non-Western societies.
International Studies - study of the diversity,
complexity and interdependence of the world community to understand
and analyze world problems and issues.
Journalism - study of the communication
professions of print journalism, public relations and advertising.
Three concentrations are offered:
- Integrated Communications: Public Relations and
Advertising - addresses the rapidly expanding
international market for coordinated strategic business
communications.
- News Editorial - use of Indianapolis as a
reporting laboratory, including issues of importance to the
city.
- Public Relations - theory and ethics of public
relations, researching, planning, monitoring and evaluating public
relations projects and campaigns and applying campaign methods to
solve specific client problems.
Mathematics - the study of quantities and
relations through the use of numbers and symbols.
Philosophy - the rational investigation of the
truths and principles of being, knowledge or conduct.
Physics - seeks to understand the rules of
nature that govern the universe.
Political Science - the theory and practice of
politics, and the description and analysis of political systems and
political behavior.
Psychology - science that studies human and
animal behavior.
Public and Corporate Communications - stresses
the role communication plays in organizations and gives a broad
overview of professional communication and the business world.
Religion - study of various religious
traditions and literature and examinations of the nature of
religion.
Science, Technology and Society - studies the
ways in which science and technology influence and are influenced
by the society of which they are a part.
Sociology - study of social life, social life
change and the social causes and consequences of human behavior. In
addition to the broad Sociology Major, the program also houses the
following majors:
- Criminology - the study of crime and
criminals.
- Criminology and Psychology - combined degree
including elements of both studies.
- Sociology and Criminology - combined degree
offering elements of both studies.
- Social Work - concentration within sociology
that offers the student practical oriented courses in social work
in addition to other more theoretically oriented classes.
Social Work and Psychology - combined degree
offering elements of both studies.
Software Engineering - a disciplined
methodology for developing high quality software systems.
Spanish - study of Spanish language and
cultures
Spanish and Business Studies - joins a Spanish
language major with a solid core of business courses.
Urban Affairs - examines the social, political,
cultural, and economic patterns and issues in the urban
environment.

with automatic entry into the four-year professional PharmD
program. (Must apply by December 1 st for

pre-professional phase in order to apply for the three-year dual
