Franklin Buchanan Prize, Association for Asian Studies, 2002, awarded to University of Pittsburgh China Studies Faculty for our collective product, Contemporary Chinese Societies: Continuity and Change (Columbia University Press, 2001). First Prize, 1981 Pacific Sociological Association Graduate Student Paper Competition, for my research paper, "Changes in Higher Educational Policy and Their Implications for Social Stratification in Contemporary China."
