Resumé/Vitae

Academic/Professional/Personal Focus

Areas of Expertise

  • -Instruction of Spanish
  • -Composition in Spanish
  • -Oral Conversation in Spanish
  • -Presentations and Study on Reflective Teaching: For the last 5 years I have been focusing on creating a new way of teaching on the basis of "student-center instruction". The main participant is the student. For this reason, the intention is to create an environment where the student feels confident and takes active part of his participation. A great deal of his learning relies on his work, dedication and own responsibility to succeed. The teacher gives up control to be more like a facilitator and supporter of his/her students.
  • In the oral classes, the way of correcting a student is a conscious process in which the students is allowed to make mistakes and throughout the instructor's help and guidance, the student sees, understands and is able to correct his own errors.
  • As a technological tool to help the students strengthen his confidence in the use of oral skills, I use PANOPTO, which is an audio recording system, provided by Blackboard. The student can record his oral presentations on his own. He can observe his own work and his peers' for assessment. This way creates  an atmosphere where the student is in control of his task since he can record more than once and he can receive feedback from his peers as well as from the teacher. There is always enough room for improvement with this group contribution.
  • Service Learning in Spanish, in this class Students tutor latino kids that have academic issues. We serve students within the IPS District. At this moment, we have partnerships with Shortridge HS, Theodore Potter Elementary school and Imagine Life Sciences West Academy k-8.
