Founded in 1855 by attorney and abolitionist Ovid Butler, Butler University today occupies 20 buildings on 290 acres in the Butler-Tarkington neighborhood of Indianapolis.


The University encompasses five colleges and emphasizes a liberal arts-based education. Faculty work closely with students both inside and outside the classroom as part of our active student learning approach.
