Loretta Contino, flute

Loretta Contino served as a National Flute Association Delegate to the People's Republic of China in 1987 and to the USSR in 1989. As a member and soloist with the American Flute Orchestra, she has toured Ireland, France, Austria, Germany, Italy, and England.

She performs both traditional and contemporary music and is active in the National Flute Association as a performer and presenter. At the 1999 convention in Atlanta, her subject was "Demystifying Memorization," and in 2002 she gave a visual presentation, "Off the Wall Applied Music Theory."

Many of her articles on flute technique and teaching have been published. She frequently serves as a judge for music contests and has taught at music camps in Michigan and Kentucky.

A native of greater Cleveland, she studied with Maurice Sharp at the Cleveland Institute of Music, has her bachelor's degree from the University of Cincinnati and her master of music from Butler University. She studied the Suzuki method with Toshio Takahashi and continues to attend master classes including those of Robert Dick, Jean Pierre Rampal, Michel Debost, and others.
