Summer Brain Gain Program

What is the Purpose of the Program?

The Summer Brain Gain program is designed to help students connect with the Indianapolis culture and community. Students secure and complete an internship or similar experience with a local organization, thereby strengthening their connections to potential employers.

The program offers evening programming to introduce students to the social and cultural communities beyond Butler’s campus. Once students realize all that Indianapolis has to offer, they may consider living and working in Indianapolis after graduation!

Why Should I Participate?

Who Is Eligible?

Butler students of all majors and grade levels are eligible to apply.

* Students will be allowed to miss one event during the summer, given they complete a missed event form, which must be pre-approved by the Program Coordinator.

Where Will I Live?

Participants will be housed in University Terrace (UT) Apartments**.

** In the case that a student is current living in the Apartment Village (AV) and has signed the contract to remain in the AV during the next academic year, they will be allowed to live in the AV over the summer at the discounted Summer Brain Gain housing rate.

What Types of Events Are Offered?

Internship & Career Services offers a variety of evening programs and activities throughout the summer for the Summer Brain Gain participants. Attendance at each event is required*.

Additional events sponsored by University Terrace may be offered during the summer. These events do not count toward the program requirements, but provide opportunities to build stronger bonds with fellow residents and program participants.

Most of the events will take place on weekday evening, typically starting around 5:30 or 6:00 PM and lasting a few hours. Events are offered to students at no charge and meals are provided at the events unless otherwise noted. Past events have included company field trips, sporting events, behind-the-scenes tours, experiencing theater, visiting museums, dinner at the zoo, networking socials and many others.

* Students will be allowed to miss one event during the summer, given they complete a missed event form, which must be pre-approved by the Program Coordinator.

How Do I Apply?

Application information for the 2010 program will be posted later in the fall semester.
